Doris Nell Floyd, a beloved daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great great-grandmother, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2024, at the age of 93 in Temple, Texas. She was born on October 3, 1931, in Belton, Texas. Doris graduated from Liberty Hill High School where she met the love of her life A.J. Floyd. She lived a life rich with love and cherished her family deeply.
Doris was a woman of many talents and interests. She took great pride tending to her gardens nurturing every bloom with the care and dedication she afforded her loved ones. Her hands were also skilled in sewing and crocheting, as she created heartfelt items for her family to treasure. However, nothing brought her more joy than her trusty lawnmower. As she aged, she humorously remarked that parting with her lawnmower was much harder than giving up her car—an endearing testament to her spirited approach to life.
Doris was also a woman of great faith as a lifelong member of the Elm Grove Baptist Church in Belton. She loved her church family and served it faithfully. In her later years she served by sending cards. Whether they were for birthdays, we miss you, hope you’re feeling better or thinking of you, a card was always in the mail.
Family was at the center of Doris's world, and she took immense pride in her role as a mother. She is survived by her daughters, Gwendolyn Fisher and her husband Bill of Belton, TX, and Dana Sanford (the late Tracey Sanford) of Aledo, TX. Doris was a proud grandmother to Jay D. LaRue (Kathleen), Amy Mungia-Shine (Steve), and Brandon LaRue (Rocio) and step-grandmother to Billy Fisher (Chelsea). Her legacy continues through her 5 great-grandchildren, 4 step great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren who will undoubtedly carry forward the love she imparted to them. She is also survived by her beloved siblings Lucille Washburn, Allan 'Sonny' King, and Juanita Weir, along with many nieces and nephews who held her dear.
Though Doris has left this earthly realm, she is preceded by those she loved and lost, her husband of 55 years A. J. Floyd, her parents Pauline (Montgomery) and Ernest King, her sister Geraldine 'Kitty' Davis, her brother Billy Harold King, and her sister Yvonne 'Bonnie' Wells. The bonds of love she cultivated during her lifetime remain, creating an everlasting connection to all who knew her.
Services honoring Doris's incredible life will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Belton, Texas. Visitation starts at 9:30 AM, followed by her funeral service at 11:00 AM. Doris will then be interred at North Belton Cemetery at 12:15 PM, where her loved ones can pay their final respects.
Her family, who regarded her as their everything, invite those touched by Doris's compassion and indomitable spirit to join them in celebrating a life well-lived. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
