Doris Will Jones was born on 12/29/1926 in Milan, Georgia, where she lived with her parents, Julie Elizabeth Williams and LC Jones, Sr. and her 7 siblings on the family farm. She graduated in the 11th grade from the Chauncey School in Chauncey, GA and attended business school prior to working for Jones Lumber Company in Milan. She married Thomas Harris (Tommy) Fussell in August 1951, and they had two daughters, Julia Ann Fussell and Marie (Mike) Harvill. She worked as a florist, running the Milan Flower Shop after her mother's retirement until 1978. In 1979, she and Tommy moved to Dublin, GA, where she lived until her death.
She began working for Belk in 1983 as a salesclerk then moving into the alterations department, where she continued to work until retiring in 1999, Despite officially retiring, she continued to do alterations for Belk from home until she was in her early 90s. She has hemmed, remade, let out, took in, cuffed and patched innumerable garments since 1983, including Marie's wedding and bridesmaids' dresses and the many prom and bridesmaids' dresses for her granddaughters.
She was an avid home cook, and known particularly for her blueberry Pies, chocolate pies, brown mountain cake and thin lacey cornbread. However, everything she cooked was delicious. She served others in many ways: feeding others, crocheting personal gifts, and making baby quilts are just a few. She loved to fish, often catching a fish, cooking and cleaning it for herself for lunch, although, her favorite was a family fish fry, where she would always say "Mike cooks the best fish." She has enjoyed hearing the fish tales told by her son in law, grandsons in law and great grandchildren. Other hobbies included gardening, putting up vegetables with Marie, working in her yard and watching baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves.
Until relocating to Dublin, she was a member of Antioch Baptist Church #2 in Milan. Once relocating to Dublin, she became a member at Marie Baptist Church, which she loved and has been a member for 45 years, where she was recently recognized as the oldest living member and where she taught the Ladies Senior Sunday School Class for over 25 years. She loved her church, loved living for the Lord, and being a witness for Him to others as evident by her willingness to help wherever she could – cooking for church events, singing in the choir for over 20 years, only stepping down so Marie could join and she could help care for the girls, and in her later years when she was less physically able to do more, as a rocker in the nursery. When it came time to move her to Dublinair Health & Rehab, she said, "Maybe there would be someone there she could witness to and share Christ with." However, she loved her family the most, especially spending time with them. Her heart was her Great Grandchildren – Daylie, Maddie, Jack, Emily & Bennett, and they loved their Granny/Gran Gran.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas H. (Tommy) Fussell, parents, Julie W & LC Jones, Sr., siblings Elizabeth Lancaster (Malette) Smith, Eugenia (James) Crouch, LC Jr (Charlene) Jones, Tyrus Jones, Bennie Jones, brother in laws Bobby Wood and Wiley D. Vaughn, and nieces Carla Vaughn and Melba L. Boykin.
She is survived by her loving daughters Julia Ann Fussell, and Marie (Mike) Harvill, grandchildren Leslie Harvill, Joni (Matt) Graham, Austin (Carley) Rawlins, Lauren (Adam) McEachern, great grandchildren Daylie Rawlins, Maddie Graham, Jack McEachern, Emily Graham, and Bennett McEachern, sisters Annette J. Wood and Linda J. Vaughn, sister-in-law, Joan Jones, nieces and nephews Herman Boykin, Ronnie (Elaine) Lancaster, Cecelia (Terry) Yancy, Tommy (Sarah) Jones, Barbara (Eddie) Cravey, Fran (Dennis) Douglas, Mike (Dale) Jones, Beth (Billy) Smith, Brian Vaughn, Heather (Chris) McAdams, as well as numerous cousins, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Mike Harvill, Austin Rawlins, Matthew Graham, Adam McEachern, Woody Callaway, and Eddie Cravey.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Antioch Baptist Church #2 Cemetery in Milan, Georgia. Mr. Ronnie Lancaster, Rev. Jack Lee, and Rev. Bobby Hutto will officiate.
