Doris Greaves Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Howard K. Hill Funeral Services - New Haven on Dec. 14, 2021.
Doris E. Greaves, affectionately knowns as Mama Rose, a longtime resident of New Haven, CT, departed this life on December 2, 2021 at Yale-New Haven Hospital, leaving this earthly home and ascending to her heavenly home.
Doris was born in Jamaica, West Indies in the Parish of St. Ann on September 28, 1942, to the late David and Eunice Greaves. She was the fourth eldest of twelve children and received her formal education in St. Ann Jamaica. She was employed at Alexandria Post Office in St. Ann, until she migrated to the United State in 1987. In the United States, Doris worked and retired from Apple Rehab formerly known as Harbor View Manor.
She was an avid gardener, including flower and vegetable garden beds. She loved to cook and had a heart for taking care of people. Doris was full of life and loved her family. She was a wonderful friend, mother and quite the social butterfly. She instilled the values of honesty, hard work, and dedication in her family whom she devoted her life to. She had a deep appreciation for the little things from food, family, and friends. Doris was an individual, the likes of whom many of us may never again have the privilege of knowing. A beautiful life came to an end. An independent woman full of joy and always there to offer a helping hand.
Doris will always be adored and remembered by her five sons, Lenworth, Vincent, Bevon, Franklyn, and Burkland; grandson, Dwayne Treasure, who she raised; special adopted daughter, Tracey Marrett; 29 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; brothers, Errol Greaves, Clifford Greaves, and Herbert Greaves (Natali); sisters, Olga Harrison of England, Carmen Sealy (Wilfred) and Constance Greaves, both of Connecticut, Pamela James and Patricia Greaves both of Jamaica; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends across the world. She was predeceased by her parents, David and Eunice Greaves; brothers, George and Winston Greaves; and sister, Hilda Greaves Lloyd.
In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution can be made to Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church, 425 Newhall Street, Hamden, CT 06517. Phone Number: (203) 624-3028
