Doris "Dottie" Kay Hinkson was born on November 21, 1945, to Wallace A. & LaVonne A. Knerr in Ashton, Iowa. She was an only child. She passed away peacefully on February 15, 2025.
Dottie attended St. Joseph High School, where she performed with a triple trio ensemble representing St. Joseph High School at various competitions. She also participated in speech contests at diocesan and state competitions, earning "1" ratings (the highest there were). Dottie was an accomplished 4-H member, earning the distinction of appearing on a Sioux City, Iowa TV program demonstrating how to sew a shank button on a garment.
Dottie graduated as Salutatorian of her class in 1964. She had a great personality and was a kind and caring friend to all.
Dottie had a passion for cooking. She later retired from Hilltop Resource Center as a cook. She then met the love of her life, Elmer Hinkson, whom she married in December 1997. She loved spending her weekends fishing on the Grand Mesa, especially at Never Sweat Réservoir. When she wasn't fishing, she loved to travel, spend time with her family & friends, and of course, her little dog "Jack," whom she had rescued. Dottie loved to listen to Ricky Van Shelton & and any and all gospel music. Dottie was known for her kindness & her bubbly smile that she always carried wherever she went.
Dottie attended Fellowship Church for many years and loved her weekly prayer breakfast meeting with her husband and many friends.
Dottie is survived by two sons, Robert (Teresa) Hinkson & family of Fruita, Samuel (Danaca) Hinkson & family of Grand Junction, a very dear friend Julie Stewart/John Pond & family of Grand Junction, and many friends she made along the way.
She is preceded in death by both of her parents, Wallace & LaVonne Knerr, and her husband, Elmer Hinkson.
