Doris T Martin

MANSFIELD: When asked about her longevity, Doris Martin always credited the Lord - perhaps with some exasperation, and an index finger pointed heavenward - "He's not done with me yet!" A Romans 12 Christian woman, Doris personified verses 9 through 13*: sincere in love, served and honored others, and never lacked zeal! She never knew a stranger and was an outgoing, caring, and compassionate woman. She inspired and was loved by many!
Her Christian faith has become sight, as the Lord called her to himself Wednesday, April 9, 2025 from OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital surrounded by family members. She was 100.
Born Doris T. McClelland on August 4, 1924 in Ashland, Kentucky to parents William and Luella (Thornburg) McClelland, the family moved to Ohio when Doris was young, and she graduated from Bellville High School in 1942.
She met her husband, George, at Westinghouse when he returned from military duty. She didn't sit still as she worked at Sears in the boys dept and also as a cook at the Woodville School.
She had worked as an assembler with Therm-O-Disc, and after her retirement, she went to work volunteering - frequently serving the American Red Cross, and serving on the Administrative Board of RSVP (Retired Seniors Volunteer Program).
An active member of Berean Baptist Church, she volunteered for Berean Gold, was in the Tuesday morning Bible Study, small group, and always available to help with any need in the church family.
An avid reader, Doris enjoyed fiction along with the occasional romance and Amish novel.
She is survived by her sons Jack (Laura) Martin and Tom Martin both of Mansfield; granddaughters Joni (Johnny) Boyd of Mansfield, Amanda (Jeremy) Buskirk of Sunbury, and Abby (Jamin) Hughes of Westerville; great grandchildren Kadelyn Becker, Breah and Larkin Boyd, Grace, Norah and Martin Buskirk, Ephraim and Benton Hughes, numerous nieces and nephews including Stacy (Tim) Wolford, Scott (Ginger) McClelland, and Jason (Liberty) McClelland.
She was preceded in death by her husband George Martin on March 29, 2001. Also deceased are brothers Ray McClelland and Keith McClelland.
The Martin family will accept friends, Thursday, May 1, 2025 from 10-11 a.m. with the memorial service beginning promptly at 11 a.m. in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home (350 Marion Avenue, Mansfield). Pastor Jim Berry will officiate. Interment will be at a later date at Mansfield Memorial Park.
With a nod to Doris' young spirit, contributions in her memory may be made to the youth program of Berean Baptist Church or Mansfield Public Library.
