Doris Medema, age 89, late of Plainfield, IL, went to be with her Lord on February 16, 2025. Born on July 15, 1935 to Merrill and Louise (Rettke)Cummons in Chicago, II. Declared Jesus as her personal Savior on April 18, 1945 married best friend, Martin (Jack) Medema on April 22, 1956 with whom she had 4 children, Julie (William) Gabriel of Springfield, IL, Jill (Kevin) Boll of Metairie, LA, Dirk (Shawna) Medema of Fair Oaks, CA and Diana (Richard) Jackinoski of Lockport, IL. She leaves her nine cherished grandchildren; Jaime, Amy, Christopher, Allison, Ricky, Jennifer, Adam, Cara, and Addison; and three great-grandchildren, Andrew, Carson and Caroline.
She was a graduate of Mokena Grade School, Joliet Township High School and Silver Cross Hospital School of Nursing where she worked for over 40 years. Preceded in death by beloved husband, parents, and brothers George and Paul.
Survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her sister, Joyce (the late Glenn) Miers of Nevada, nephews Craig (Melinda), Alan (Beth) and Paul (Ann) Miers and great nieces and nephews.
Former member of Morgan Park Christian Church(Chicago), St. John's United Church of Christ(Mokena) and member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Lockport where she served on the Mission Board, Deacon and Deaconess Board, Evangelism & Growth Board, taught Sunday School, was Church Moderator, Lay Minister of Evangelism and Director of Caring Ministries She was a devoted Stephen Minister, leader of the Prayer Chain and loved serving Home Communion.
She was a member of Silver Cross Hospital Nursing Alumnae and of Silver Cross Hospital Retired Employees Group.
Her legacy was to serve her Lord in whatever way He directed her.
Memorial visitation will be held at First Congregational Church, 700 E 9th St, Lockport IL 60441 on Saturday, February 22, 2025 from 9-10am, service to begin at 10am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Congregational Church of Lockport UCC (https://lockportucc.org/give/), Lockport Resource Center Inc. (https://lockportresource.org/donate-today/), or a charity of your choosing.
Burial will take place at St. John's Cemetery in Mokena at a later date.
