Doris Ruth Mills Newton Blevins passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025 at the Essex Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Louisville, Kentucky. She was born on July 18, 1934, in Elberton, Georgia. She is survived by her Son, Rev. Charles “Jacky” Newton (Rebecca); Daughter-in-law, Anne Newton; Grandchildren, Joshua Newton (Ashley), Courtney Newton, Ryan Newton, Haley Newton, Kelly Newton, Jason McGinty (Leslie), Aleisa Lightle (Joshua); Great grandchildren, Brayden, Charlotte, Callan, & Declan Newton, Caleb, Lauren & Aubrey McGinty, Ava & Asher Lightle; Sister, Vera “Annie” Carroll, and 8 nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her husbands, Billy Ray Newton and Don Blevins; Son, James Ray “Jimmy” Newton; Parents, Joseph Jackson & Ruth Lurleen Chandler Mills; Siblings, Joseph “JC” Mills, Frances “Janie” Sherard, Imogene “Jean” Ruff, Bobby Mills, Ray Jackson Mills.
She was a member of New Salem Baptist Church, and former member of First Baptist Church and Forest Hill Baptist Church, both in Anderson, SC, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She graduated from Anderson Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1953 and was a nurse for 30 years before retiring from the Anderson County Public Health Department.
