Doris Evelyn Mims

Doris Evelyn Mims, 86 of Hendersonville, TN transitioned at 2:35 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2025 at Signature Healthcare in Portland, TN. Doris Evelyn McGruder Mims was born April 13, 1938 to Alice Zelma Lee Minter Green and Vincil Burton McGruder.
Mrs. Mims received a full membership to Helping Hand Baptist Church in Hannibal, MO on March 14, 2006. She worked as a switchboard operator, receptionist, grandmother in the Foster Grandmother Program, and as a nursing aid and nursing assistant at Hannibal Regional Hospital. She enjoyed rummage sales and watching the news and Christian programming. She also loved scary movies, a passion she shared with her son, Kevin. She always said, "Out of millions of sons, not one could hold a candle to my son Kevin. He was the best!"
She is survived by her granddaughter, Kenda Hollins of Natchez, MS and Endia Collins of Hannibal, MO; great-grandchildren, Kendrell Hollins and Kelena Hollins; step-children, Alexis Renee Kinsberry of Atlanta, GA, Robin Collins of Baton Rouge, LA, and Sherlene Simpson of Las Vegas NV; uncle, Willard (Adonna) Minter; nieces Francine Collins, Etta Minter (Noah Beverly) and Zelberta McGruder Williams; nephew, Keith McGruder; great nephew, Harry (Amanda) Garr, Jr.; great nieces, Shayla Collins and Shanna Minter; cousin and best friend, Jacklyn Howard and Robin Sharp, Kevin Collin's partner of nineteen years with a host of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Zelma (Minter) Green; father, Vincil McGruder; sister, Frances Erlene (Minter) Weathers; brother, Richard Vincil McGruder; nephew, Vincil Lee McGruder; and her beloved son, Kevin La Marche Collins.
Funeral Services will be held April 19, 2025, at Helping Hand Baptist Church, 1020 Lyon St., Hannibal, MO. Reverend Lindell Robbins, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Grand View Burial Park, 11116 US-61, Hannibal, MO.
