Doris Collette Charbonneau Simpson, 96, passed away peacefully in her home on September 25th, 2025, in Manchester NH. She was born on April 2, 1929 in Auburn, NH the daughter of Joseph Charbonneau and Alice Veilleux.
Doris was the wife of Elmer Simpson and they were married on September 4th for more than 50 years before his passing.
She attended catholic school in Manchester, NH and later worked at McCulleon Shoes in Manchester. Doris also worked for Derry Shoe Company and retired from Harvey Windows in Manchester.
Doris was the proud mother to seven boys and one girl so spent her early motherhood days at the baseball fields cheering her children on. Her and her husband also enjoyed square and round dancing for over 25 years. They like to travel as a family and visited the many historically sites throughout the United States. She eventually slowed down and moved to an elderly housing complex where she played bingo, cribbage and lots of card games with her friends over the last 20 years of her life. Anyone who knew Doris will remember her for strong faith and support of numerous catholic charities. She raised her family in the St Pius X community and continue to attend church several times a week, read the bible or watch mass on her television until her final days on earth. Her faith, kindness and generosity was unmatched. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends, but we know she is in a happier place now.
She is predeceased by all her sisters ( Rhea Caldwell, Rita Tancrede, Genevieve Crotty, Pauline Burke) and brother (Leo Charbonneau) as well as numerous step brothers and sisters. She also experienced sadness when she lost her eldest son Paul, third son, Glen, and sixth son, Craig Joseph. Doris was part of a large family with many nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Doris is survived by Gary and Susan Simpson, Mark and Mariam Simpson, Scott Simpson, Joyce Simpson Sylvester, and Wayne Simpson, as well as 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
SERVICES: A funeral mass service will be held on Tuesday, October 7th at 10AM at the St Pius X Church, 575 Candia Road Manchester NH with Father de Laire officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend. From St. Pius, Doris will be put to final rest at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Manchester NH alongside her husband Elmer.
Doris loved flowers while she was alive but was adamant she didn’t want them when she died because she couldn’t enjoy them. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Catholic Charities, your local food kitchen or the American Red Cross.
