Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home - Bardstown on Dec. 24, 2024.
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Doris Vollmer Sostarich, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, who entered into eternal life in the early hours of the morning on December 22, 2024 at the age of 91.
Born on October 1st, 1933 Doris was the middle child of 6. She was married to her devoted husband, Joe Sostarich, for 69 years, building a life filled with love, commitment, and shared memories. Together, they raised three children who were the center of her world.
Doris was also deeply involved in a non-profit national organization that helps family and friends manage the struggles and challenges of living with a person, or persons, with an addiction. As well as offering compassion, wisdom and advice to countless individuals, she was also the Treasurer and later the Chairman of the Board for this national organization. The deep and long friendships she made through the program were one of the most meaningful parts of her life.
A lifelong, devout Catholic, Doris found strength and solace in her faith. She was an active member of St. Agnes where her children attended school. Her faith was her compass throughout her life, guiding her through both the joys and challenges that came her way.
Known for her nurturing spirit and wisdom, she was a source of light and love to everyone who knew her. Her warm smile, kind heart, and gentle presence will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to call her family or friend. Above all, she will be remembered for the love she gave, the lessons she taught, and the example she set through her devotion to family, faith, and community.
May she rest in peace, and may her memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
She will be warmly remembered by all who knew her, but especially missed by her family: her loving husband of 69 years, Joe Sostarich; daughter, Pam Johnson; son, Mike Sostarich; daughter, Diane Sostarich; and sister, Ruth Schmuckie. Also, sharing in Doris's legacy are 5 grandchildren, Paul Johnson, Sara Stapley, Rebecca Arechavala, Sydney Sostarich, and Isaac Sostarich; and 5 great grandchildren, Devon Johnson, GwenElise Johnson, Lily Johnson, Wesley johnson, and Milo Stapley. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph A. and Emma Mae (Garvey) Vollmer; and 4 siblings, Alice Higgins, Bill Vollmer, Mary Lee Higdon, and Rudolph "Buddy" Vollmer.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at St. Agnes Catholic Church. Interment will be held at Mt. holly Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 27th from 2 PM until 8 PM at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Rd.
