Doris Ruth Stanton

Doris R. Stanton, 91, passed away on July 2, 2023, in Epping, NH after a lengthy illness. She was born in East Boston, MA on March 5, 1932, the daughter of the late Gaius and Isabella (Kearns) Loomis. A longtime resident of Woburn, MA she has resided in Epping, NH at her daughter's home for the last 8 years.
Doris was very active at the Woburn Senior Center as a volunteer. She was appointed by the mayor as the Chair of the Council on Aging for several years. In 2010, she was honored at the Massachusetts State House as volunteer of the year, and in the city of Woburn, MA, April 9, 2016 was named Doris R. Stanton day.
Doris worked for many years at the Choate Hospital in Woburn as a ward secretary. She was also employed as a secretary at private medical centers in Winchester and Medford, MA. She also ran a home daycare service for the Woburn Council of social concern.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold T. Stanton Sr. who passed away in 1980; her daughter Margaret O'Brien; her stepson Michael Stanton; and her siblings Pauline Groom, Thomas Loomis, and Jean McMasters. She is survived by her stepdaughter Patricia L. Kelly of Fremont, NH; her children, Doris R. Pond of Epping, NH, Russell E. Stanton of Dracut, MA, Jane S. Hogeland of Woburn, MA, Harold T. Stanton Jr. of Woburn, MA, Denise J. McSweeney of Woburn, MA, Robert J. Stanton of Billerica, MA, and Jodie L. Stanton of Manchester, NH; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Viewing for family and friends will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023, 9:00 AM at the Epping Community Church, 4 Pleasant St., Epping, NH. Funeral services will follow at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in the Woodbrook Cemetery, located on 100 Salem St., Woburn, MA at 12:30 PM. Brewitt Funeral Home, 9 Pleasant St., is handling the services.
