In Loving Memory Of Doris Irene Wampler
Doris Irene Wampler, 85 of Sunury passed away unexpectedly on February 15th, 2024 at her home.
Doris was born on August 20th, 1938 to Leo and Edna (Bullock) Barcus. Doris was a cherished wife, mother, granny and great granny. She is preceded in death by her parents, her son Darrell Wampler and her siblings Ruth Pierce, Betty Garee and Bob Barcus.
August 30th, 1955 Doris and Gene married in North Carolina. They created a beautiful family and wonderful memories together. Celebrating 68 years of love and companionship as lifetime residents of Sunbury.
Doris is survived by her husband Eugene "Gene" Wampler, her Sons Dwayne (Cheryl) Wampler, Dale (Kara) Wampler, her Grandchildren Chris (Katie) Wampler, Chad (Megan) Wampler, (their mother Cheryl Wampler), Jessica Wampler (Andy Webber), Adam (Jennifer) Wampler, Jennifer (Matt) Hoskinson, Jarrett (Kari) Wampler, Kevin (Elyse) Wampler and her Great Grandchildren Kohen, Autumn, Evah, Lane, Ian, McKayla, Owen, Milo, Brody, Harper, Camryn and Jett. Several nieces and newphews. Doris cherished each and every one of them.
Doris loved her family more than anything. She served as Cub Scout Leader and Team mom for Baseball and Wrestling. She spent as much time as she possibly could with the Grandchildren. They created wonderful cherished memories together. Her favorite was to have all 7 of grandkids over together. She enjoyed taking them on mini trips. A few of favorites, Marietta and Fantasy Farms Parks. Doris was full of spunk and never afraid to voice her opinion. She was the glue that held the family together. She leaves behind a loving legacy of love, strength and unwavering support.
To illustrate the compassion and love Doris had for her family, an excerpt from a book Doris wrote about the story of her life has been included below:
How could you help someone else fulfill at least one of their life goals?
"I try to be there for my grandchildren if they need me, although I try not to butt in too much because I don't want them to think I am trying to run their lives.
When someone is having a difficult time, I listen to them and try to provide alternative solutions to the problem. It's very important to listen to the whole story before making a judgement. You have to work with people, not against them."
Picture yourself in the future. What are some of the ways you see yourself changing and growing for the better?
"I am a firm believer of family going to a nursing home when you need to. I don't expect my family to have to care for me when I can no longer do that for myself."
What are you grateful for?
"I am grateful for my family. We have had a good life and marriage. As I go to bed at night, I thank God and ask him to take care of my family. I am grateful Gene and I have made it this far together. I am grateful the kids all enjoy each other. It's nice to hear "I love you" from all the kids. There is a lot of love in our family."
Doris spent her professional career in Sunbury with The Sunbury News, Forman Realtors and Sunbury Family Chiropratic.
Doris served on the Board of Big Walnut Friends Who Share for many years.
