Doris Whisler

Doris Florence Whisler, age 100, of Wilmington, DE, formerly of Brookfield Avenue, died October 27, 2023.
Doris married her late husband, George E. Whisler, at age 18 and raised their two children, Jeannie and Jimmy, in their home of 79 years on Brookfield Ave in Wilmington, DE. Over the years, she lovingly welcomed her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and in her final months, her first great-great grandson.
Doris was a member of the amateur H.A.M Radio club, roller skating dance club, and enjoyed playing drums while her husband played the organ. She loved spending time with her dogs, her family, taking long walks, and enjoying time outdoors. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren fondly remember sleepovers at her house, packing backyard picnic lunches with her famous rice pudding, chocolate chip cookies, and sweet tea, and easter egg hunts at her home in springtime. Doris was loved and appreciated by so many, including family, friends and neighbors, and her wonderful caretakers at Sunrise Living of Wilmington, DE.
In addition to her parents, Sarah and Huey Erskine, Doris was predeceased by her husband, George, and children, Jean and Jimmy. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Dell Vorwald, Helen Collins, Huey Erskine, Fay Willie, Joyce Ero, Berry Fairbanks, and Donnie Erskine.
Doris is survived by her daughter-in-law Carol Hall of Wilmington; brother Dickie Erskine of Maryland; grandchildren Cheryle Marley (Mick) of Norristown, PA, Karen ODonnell (Jack) of Doylestown, PA, and David Warner, Jr. (Lori) of Malvern, PA; great grandchildren Jake ODonnell (Rachel), Travis Andrews (Alison), Devin ODonnell, Connor Warner, Kaitlyn Warner, Kylie Warner, Kyle Borror, and Kelsey Borror; and great-great grandson Thomas Andrews.
Visitation will be Friday, November 3 from 10:30-11 am at the McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803 with a funeral at 11. Interment will take place in Lawncroft Cemetery.
