Dorman Roy Reed Obituary
Roy Reed was born in
Amarillo, TX on May 28, 1940. He was the youngest of 10 children. We always say he barely made it here as his mother was well into her 40's at his birth!
He married Dora Frances (Fran) Eubanks on July 20, 1957 and they were happily married for 65 years this July.
They had 4 children, Monte Dale (deceased), Johnny Wayne, Kari Joanna and Dorman Roy Reed II (Sonny).
Roy grew up with meager means but he always talked about the richness of his mother and father's love and how his mother went out of her way to make his life the best that it could be.
He developed an entrepreneurial spirit in working for others in Amarillo and Omaha and decided to go into business for himself in the early 1970's.
He started his business in Omaha, NE and called it Acoustical Services Company. He then moved it to Denver, Colorado, where it has grown into a successful corporation and is now the oldest Acoustical Ceilings company in Denver.
He was a hard worker and the absolute best and fastest acoustical ceilings mechanic in his day.
He & Fran sat on the board of directors at Jefferson Center For Mental Health for many years in Denver, volunteering and donating to many mental health endeavors. He was always attentive and compassionate towards the needs of the mentally ill.
He started JAMI Partners (through Jefferson Alliance For the Mentally Ill) which partnered mentally ill persons with volunteers who would befriend them and spend time each week with them, enriching their quality of life. Some of these relationships continue to this day.
He supported many other causes including the Denver Rescue Mission, Wounded Warriors and Children's Health Defense to name but a few.
He attended the Baptist Church most of his life and his walk and relationship with God was always important to him. In the 70's and 80's he would, along with others in the church, conduct Sunday Services at Villa Manor Nursing Home in Lakewood, CO and he and his daughter, Kari, would go from room to room afterwards to visit the infirm.
In his younger years, he loved taking his children waterskiing at the lake and later on, his favorite hobby became cars, so much so, that he began collecting them and built a special garage, Sideways Garage to contain them.
In this hobby, he found yet another way to serve humanity and he did this in delivering Meals On Wheels to the elderly in the community.
He belonged to the Viper Car Club and had many exciting and fun road trips with his friends in that club.
It was not his time. His cause of death was the Phizer Double Jab. We are convinced and he was too.
He is survived by his wife, Fran, who resides under the care of their daughter & granddaughter in Omaha, Ne. Our desire is to encourage other families, when possible, to care for their elderly loved ones at home.
His 7 grandchildren and great grandchildren are:
Audrey Reed Lindeman (Kent) & children Teigan, Weston, Mark, Matthew & Mary Martha.
Aspen Babb (Albert) & children Yulala, AJ & Roman.
Russell Carlson
Janae Reed Bell (Jerard)
Dakota Reed (Elisia)
Joanna Dubisher (Ryan)
Hannah Oborn-Birks (Justin)
A memorial service will be held in Denver & via livestream which will be announced at a later date.
