Dorothy F. Benson, 90, of Millerstown, passed away Saturday, October 4, 2025 at her residence.

Born on October 20, 1934 in Newport, Perry County, she is a daughter of the late Theodore L. and Margarette (Stroup) Howell.

On June 1, 1953, she married her late husband, H. Wayne Benson with whom she was blessed to share over 70 years of marriage before his passing on March 10, 2024.

She is survived by two daughters, Judy L. Shields of Loysville and Mary L. Prosser and her husband James of Newport; one son, Frank Benson of Millerstown; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two brothers, Robert W. Howell and his wife Donna and Edward A. Howell and his wife Jennie; two sisters, Arletta M. Kauffman and her husband Donald and Ruth D. Lehman and her husband John; and many generations of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna R. Rapp and Mary J. Cree and four brothers, Lloyd L. Howell, Harold L. Howell, Charlie E. Howell, and Donald F. Howell.

Mrs. Benson was a member of the Free Spring Church of the Brethren, Mifflintown where she previously served as a Deacon and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She loved spending time on church activities and her church family.

In earlier life, Dorothy was employed at the Lingerie factory in Newport and then became a proud homemaker, farmer's wife, and also babysat many nieces and nephews throughout the years.

She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and yard work.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at the Free Spring Church of the Brethren, 670 Free Spring Church Road, Mifflintown with Pastor Terry Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Cemetery, Millerstown.

A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral services at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Benson's memory can be made to her church, Free Spring Church of the Brethren, 670 Free Spring Church Road, Mifflintown, PA 17059.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 111 Westfall St., McAlisterville.
