Dorothy Jones Cooper, age 98 of Brownwood passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 5, 2025 with her family by her side. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 9th from 6 to 8 PM at Heartland Funeral Home in Early. Graveside services will be at 11 AM on Friday, October 10th at Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early.
Dorothy was born on March 3, 1927 in Brownwood to Lyle and Inez Jones. She graduated from Brookesmith High School. Dorothy married Billy Allen Cooper on April 12, 1947 and they began a life together that blessed them with one daughter, Tanya.
She helped work the ranch, farmed and made a home with Billy for over 50 years. Dorothy spent some of her days volunteering with the Brown County Cattlewomen's Association and Good Samaritan Ministries. She was a member of the Mercury Baptist Church in Rochelle and the First Baptist Church of Brownwood, where she attended Sunday school.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle Jones and Inez Connaway Jones; her husband Billy Allen Cooper; brothers, Murice and Dale Jones; sisters, Leota Handy, Patsy Brown and Shirley Jones.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Tanya Cooper and husband Harold Horton of Granbury, TX and many nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers Dorothy's family ask that you cherish her memory by donating to Good Samaritan Ministries, 305 Clark St, Brownwood, TX 76801 (325) 643-2273 or the Lake Dam Volunteer Fire Department, 8800 TX-279, Brownwood, TX 76801 (325) 784-7046.
