Dorothy Derryberry Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Manchester Funeral Home on Aug. 11, 2025.
Dorothy Mae (Fetzer) Keylon Derryberry- known for her charm, spunky spirit, and unmatched hospitality- passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 9, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

"Dot" was born on New Year's Eve in 1933 to Irene and Houston Fetzer, and was raised by her grandparents, Maddie and H.M. Fetzer, along with her beloved brother, Buddy, in Manchester, TN.

A graduate of Coffee County Central High School, Dot married Glenn Keylon in June 1953. Together, they built a beautiful home and raised two children, Jimmy and Kimberly, whom she loved fiercely. For many years, Dot worked alongside Glenn at their family business, Manchester Lumber and Supply, where she became an integral part of her community.

After Glenn's passing in 1970, Dot's tenacity and steadfast faith ensured her life was not defined by loss. In 1971, she began a new chapter by marrying Ridley Derryberry and becoming co-owner of Tennessee Hills Campground- a place where her gift for hospitality shone. She welcomed guests as if they were lifelong friends, creating an inviting space that left a lasting impression on all who visited.

Dot is preceded in death by her husbands, Glenn and Ridley, and her son Jimmy. She is survived by Kimberly Jameson (Tim), Doug Derryberry (Annabelle), and Vicki Lufkin (Walter); grandchildren Catherine, Emily, Dustin, and Sarah; great-grandchildren Ridley Elizabeth and Henry; and countless extended relatives and dear friends she considered family.

A memorial service will be held at the Manchester Funeral Home, 786 McMinnville Highway, at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2025. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A private graveside farewell for immediate family will follow. Dot cared for everyone's children like they were her own, and in that same spirit we ask that in lieu of flowers, you consider a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in her honor.

I was privileged to meet Dot at American House in Murfreesboro. We participated in a weekly Bible study together. One of her favorite activities was to lead the group in singing Jesus Loves Me. I'm looking forward to singing that again with her someday.

Dot most recently attended Bible study with our group on Monday August 4th. We studied Acts chapter 11 that day: Peter Reports to the Church in Jerusalem about Cornelius and The Church in Antioch where the disciples were first called Christians.
