Mr. David Malcolm Derryberry, age 79, a resident of Columbia, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025, at Maury Regional Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Heritage Funeral Home with Mike Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Thursday, September 4, 2025, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the funeral home. In recognition of his legacy, final honors will be rendered by the City of Columbia Fire Department Honor Guard. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
David was born on March 1, 1946, in Maury County, Tennessee, to the late Terry Eugene Derryberry and Jaunita Maxwell Derryberry. He was a graduate of Central High School and later dedicated 33 years to serving the City of Columbia as a firefighter, where he rose to the rank of Captain. He was deeply committed to his work and carried great pride in his service to the community.
In 1978, David married the love of his life, Patricia Darlene Dial Derryberry, with whom he shared 38 years of marriage until her passing in 2016. He cherished time with his family and could often be found on the phone catching up with his siblings. He also enjoyed traveling to Florida, spending time on the water, and visiting his daughter who lived there. David’s kind spirit and devotion to his family will be remembered by all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughters, Vicki (Mitchell) Kammeier, Kim (Donnie) Fitzgerald, and Samantha (Raymond “Ray”) Jung; brothers, Troy Derryberry and Dennis Derryberry; sisters, Beverly Primm and Edna “Snooky” Hardison; grandchildren, Brandon (Danielle) Fitzgerald, Kyrie Fitzgerald, Dacon Fitzgerald, Matt (Megan) Fitzgerald, and Rachel Jung; great-grandchildren, Bryson Fitzgerald, Addi Fitzgerald, Amy Kelley, Blossom Poulin, Julian Poulin, Forrest Poulin, and Olive Poulin; great grandchildren, Karson Fitzgerald, Marlee Fitzgerald, and Levi Fitzgerald; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Doris McKennon and Paulette Derryberry.
Pallbearers will be Terry Primm, Raymond Jung, Scott Spurlock, Brandon Fitzgerald, and David Derryberry.
