Dorothy M. DiMattia, a beloved resident of Voorhees, NJ, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by loved ones on June 25th, 2025, at the age of 92.
"Dottie," as she was lovingly referred to by family and friends, was a selfless spirit, like no other. She spent the entirety of her life in the service of others. Whether that be caring for the sick, the elderly, countless children, grandchildren, and even raising her own siblings in the midst of abundant hardships during and after World War II. Anyone who came into contact with her felt the abundance of genuine warmth of her loving heart. Resilience is the word that describes Dorothy best. Her many childhood adversities unfortunately continued into adulthood as she lost the love of her life, Rocco, far too soon and was left to care for 7 children on her own. The many trials of her life did not dampen her spirit, however, but her devotion to God and her compassion for others led her to volunteer countless hours in her community. Every week, Dorothy could be found attending Mass at Saint Andrew the Apostle Parish, where she was a dedicated member for over 65 years.
A true tea lover, Dorothy loved a good cup of Red Rose tea and shared tea with everyone that entered her loving home. She was a storyteller at heart and greatly enjoyed reminiscing about summer trips to Jumbo, times and people of long ago, as well as the history of the Philadelphia area. Dorothy's favorite pastime was reading a good book or the entirety of a daily newspaper. She enjoyed regularly discussing all the things that she read with those she loved. She was an avid baseball fan and enthusiastically supported her beloved Philadelphia Phillies until the very end, win or lose.
The matriarch of the family, Dorothy, was always surrounded by family as she attended nearly every recital, play, graduation, birthday party, holiday, and event, as family was of the utmost importance to her. She played a significant role in her grandchildren's lives as she helped in raising and caring for many of them over the years- even well into her 80s. She was a doting wife to her husband, a loving mother, and deeply invested in each of her seven children's lives. She kept a daily prayer list and prayed unceasingly for family members, friends, neighbors, and members of her church.
Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late Rocco DiMattia Jr. Devoted mother of Rocco DiMattia III, Dorothy Young (Keith), Nancy DiMattia (Michael Garbarino), Rosemarie DiMattia, William DiMattia (Lori), Samuel DiMattia (Maria Luisa), Regina Ridge (Kevin), and Samantha Daly (Brian). Dear sister of Margaret Campagna (Nick), Donald Kohler, William Kohler (the late Brigitte), Barry Kohler. Loving grandmother of Garrett (Amanda), Kierstin, Meredith, Frank, AnnMarie, Sara, Kathleen, Hannah, Vincent, Lydia, Anna, Bella, Francesca, Noah, Reese, Greyson, Phoebe, Brenan, Cameron, Quinton and one great-grandchild. Preceded in death by Rita Schmidt, Julia Boehm, Joseph Kohler Jr., Maris Guardiani, Rosemary Salvatore, Sr. Catherine Kohler.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Monday evening, June 30, 2025 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at the COSTANTINO-PRIMO FUNERAL HOME, 231 W. WHITE HORSE PIKE, BERLIN NJ. There will also be a viewing Tuesday morning, July 1, 2025 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 27 Kresson Gibbsboro Rd., Gibbsboro NJ. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00AM.
