Dorothy “Dottie” Schweitzer, 77, of St. Charles, died Monday, December 26, 2022 at Whitewater Healthcare Center in St. Charles. Dorothy was born May 13, 1945 in St. Charles to George and Margaret Mildred (Bartz) Tye. Dorothy was raised in Chatfield, Utica, and St. Charles, attending St. Charles High School. On February 11, 1961 Dorothy and Daryl “Bud” Schweitzer were married in St. Charles. Dorothy worked as a waitress at Del’s Café for many years. She also worked at St. Charles Bakery.
Dorothy enjoyed crossword Puzzles, coloring cards, crocheting, and going out with friends. Most of all she enjoyed her grandma’s daycare.
Survivors include two children, Jon (Patty) Schweitzer of St. Charles, and Jody (Bruce) Wiza of Elba, four grandchildren, Karl Schweitzer, Casey Duellman, Harley-Jo and Kylie Ramsey, great-grandchildren, Kyrie and Avyana, and siblings, Mary Jane (Barry) Taylor, Judy Ovalle, and Carol (William) Becker. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Bud in 2005, a daughter Tamela in 2021, her parents, and two siblings, Harold Tye, and Judith Kay.
Services to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 31, 2022 at Hoff Funeral Service in St. Charles led by funeral celebrant, Dianne Rislow. Visitation will begin at 12 noon at the funeral home. A reception will follow services at The Shack in Dover. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in the spring. www.hofffuneral.com.
