Obituary published on Legacy.com by Agape Funeral Chapel & Crematory - Lubbock on Jun. 28, 2025.
Dorothy Lee Fulkerson passed peacefully into the eternal kingdom of her beloved Savior Jesus Christ on June 23, 2025. Dorothy was born on October 9, 1931 in Cameron, Texas to Ira Lee and Virginia (Butts) Foster. She moved with her family in 1947 to Wayside, south of Lubbock. Dorothy graduated at the age of 16 from Tahoka High School. For a time she worked at the family's Wayside Country Store and then later at O'Hair Manufacturing Company in Lubbock.
She married Charles Fulkerson on September 12, 1952. A son, David, was born in 1956 and then a daughter, Wendy, in 1959 while the couple were residing in Odessa, Texas. A 1964 move to Plainview, Texas was short-lived and the family resided in Brownfield, Texas from 1968 to 1981. While Dorothy was living in Brownfield she worked for 10 happy and fulfilling years as secretary at the Methodist Church. She and Charlie were also glad to serve as junior high sponsors of the youth group at the church. Her doors at the church and at home were open to young and old alike.
Dorothy and Charlie moved for the last time to
Lubbock, Texas in 1981 where they were active at Trinity Church and in the PrimeTimers class with many friends and fellow believers. Her love of the Lord and the testimony of her salvation were the source of her greatest fulfillment. She loved Charlie dearly during the 66 years of their marriage-he preceded her in death, as did her parents, Ira Lee and Virginia, her stepmother, Juanita, and her two brothers, James Foster and John Foster. Dorothy spent the last four years in Wendy and Kendon's home, surrounded in arms of love and tenderness. The family is grateful to all who helped care for Dorothy, especially Loida, Aura, Esther, Imelda, Janeth, and Juli.
Dorothy is survived by her children: David Fulkerson, and wife Laura of Lubbock and Wendy Wheeler, and husband Kendon of Guatemala, Central America. She was Grandmother to seven grandchildren: Shawn Fulkerson (Rachelle,) Jessica Rhodes (Hudson), and Camie Miranda (Izzy); Jared Wheeler (Rachel), Brett Wheeler (Ashley), Micah Wheeler (Laura), and Ian Wheeler. Her family includes sixteen great-grandchildren: Bri, Stephen, Josiah, and Ethan (children of Shawn and Rachelle); Eli, Nico, and Caia (children of Hudson and Jessica); Johan, Mateo, and Luciana (children of Izzy and Camie); Molly, Quentin, and Charlotte (children of Jared and Rachel); Landri (daughter of Brett and Ashley); Callum and Gemma (children of Micah and Laura).
There will be a viewing held for family and friends on 7/2/25 from 5-7 p.m. at Agape Funeral Chapel at 6625 West 19th St, Suite 103. The graveside service will be at Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park in Woodrow (15602 TX-493 Loop,
Lubbock, TX 79423) on 7/3/25 at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, her family requests any memorial donations be made to New Life Children's Home in Guatemala:
