Dorothy P. Hann, 89 of South Connellsville died on Friday August 29, 2025 at her home. She was born on April 17, 1936 in Connellsville. Dorothy was a devoted and loving mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend. Words that have been used to describe her are joyful, happy, always positive, funny, full of life. She always lit up the room no matter where she went and she never met a stranger. She said she believed in the 3 Fs….family, friends, and fun. She always said you should find something to laugh about everyday, and she thought you should never take yourself or life too seriously. Dorothy was the daughter of Alice and Ralph Basinger. She came from humble beginnings being born and raised on McCoy Hollow Road in Connellsville. She married her sweetheart Robert "Bob" in 1956 and they had two children. Bob's work with Anchor Hocking took them to New Jersey, Florida, and Lancaster Ohio where they lived for almost 29 years. However, Dorothy's heart was always in her beloved Connellsville. They returned after Bob's retirement in 1988. After returning to Connellsville, Dorothy became immersed in various activities: the Connellsville Garden Club, the Connellsville Area Heritage Association, the Golden Girls Bowling Team, the '54 Girls, the Red Hat Society, just to name a few. She always believed in supporting local events and businesses in Connellsville. Dorothy also loved being in nature. She loved flowers and trees and she loved to share cuttings of her flowers with everyone. Her Rose of Sharon trees can be found everywhere in Connellsville and even other states such as Ohio and North Carolina! One of her loves was music. Over the past few years she regularly attended musical events at Brownfield Community Center in Dawson and was a member of the Old Time Fiddlers Association. She loved to sing! She was often spotted on Sunday evenings in the summer at the Connellsville Downtown Gazebo singing along with the various musical groups. Many people who attended knew her as the "bell ringer" lady! Of course, she loved her children. They lived in various places over the years and Dorothy was always visiting and, of course, making more friends. She also loved to travel with various travel groups from Connellsville. She loved traveling by car, bus, airplane, and train. She was always up for an adventure! Dorothy also loved holidays…all holidays, and she would always dress for the occasion from head to toe. One of her favorite holidays was the 4th of July. She loved the fireworks and the parades. She was a true patriot. She liked to tell the story where she asked her father once when she was a child what their family nationality was. His reply was that he wasn't sure, but what he knew was they were Americans. She loved her country and showed her strong sense of pride by always displaying the American flag in her front yard. After a brief illness, Dorothy passed away peacefully at her South Connellsville home that she loved and had lived in since 1988. Her children want to thank the family and friends who visited her during those last few weeks as being around friends and family was one of her biggest joys. They also want to thank the staff at WVU Ruby Memorial Hospital for their excellent care and kindness during her stay, including Eric Lindstrom, also a family friend, who made a point to visit their mother almost everyday. Also, Brandy and Bobbi from WVU Medicine Hospice for their care and support after their mother returned home. Dorothy was still making friends and lighting up the room even in her final days. She will be missed by so many. She was a great lady who made a huge impact on the world. She is survived by her daughter, Janice Barnhart and her husband Gary of Newton, NC and John Hann and his wife Teresa of Connellsville; one sister, Nancy Colamartino of Dunbar and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert G. Hann; sisters, Mary Stewart and Helen Kaylor and brothers, John, Charles "Lindy", Ralph, Jr., James and Ernest Basinger. Family and friends will be received from 2-4,6-8 P.M. Tuesday in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME, INC. 111 E. Green St., Connellsville. Funeral services will be private for the family.
