" It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Robert Hann Sr. He died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on August 24, 2025. John was 72 years old. He was shown an outpouring of love and support in his final days from family and friends close and afar.

John was born in Brooklyn, New York, on September 25, 1952. John was proud to be from Brooklyn. He moved up to Wallkill, New York, where he graduated from Wallkill High School in the class of 1972. John was a proud foreman at Majestic Weaver in his young adult life. In 1982, he started his career with the New York State Department of Corrections, where he proudly served for thirty-two years, making the rank of Sargent. John is always portrayed as everyone's favorite Sergeant. John was an avid golfer, softball player, and bowler. John was the life of everywhere he went. He brought a smile to everyone's face. John always talked about how he wanted to retire and move to Myrtle Beach to golf every day. He made that dream come true in 2020. John cherished all his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

John is survived by his significant other, Susan Hann, and his five children: John Hann Jr., Robert Hann, Mark Hann, Christopher Hann, and Amy Hann. His grandchildren are Dilan Hann, Theresa Hann, Emily Hann, Adrianna Hann, Gabriella Hann, Juliette Hann, Carl Hann, and Malcolm Stallone. His brother Alex Walminski and sisters Ruthie Chung and Anna Walminski. His three great-grandchildren are Kennedy Hann, Owen Contino, and Lillian Contino. He is predeceased by his mother, Jane Rossiter, Denise Hann, his sister Dorothy Teroni, brother Warren Walminski, and great-nephew Colin Walminski.

Before John's passing, John requested that we have a celebration of life to honor his memory. John wanted all his family and friends to be together to remember him. Bring a smile, bring a story, and join us in honoring John. The family is requesting that if you have any pictures of John that you would like to share for a slideshow, please send them to [email protected]
