Dorothy Heet Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Zahoran Funeral Home - South Bend on Dec. 30, 2022.
Dorothy Theresa Heet, 94, passed away at 5:00 a.m. on Monday, December 26, at Primrose Retirement Community in Mishawaka. She was born in South Bend on February 11, 1928, to Ernest and Agnes (Prikosovits) Dragan. On October 7, 1967, in South Bend, she married Aloysious (Al) Heet in Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church. It was a loving marriage that would last 42 years until his death on January 7, 2010.
Dorothy also was predeceased by her parents, three brothers (Rudolph, Ernest, and Frederick), and three sisters (Wilma Jones, Louise Balint, and Margaret Balogh). Surviving are many loving nieces and nephews spanning three generations.
A lifelong local resident, Dorothy was a 1945 graduate of James Whitcomb Riley High School. She attended IUSB and Purdue University and became a registered medical technologist. She retired from the South Bend Medical Foundation in 1990 after 40 years of service.
Dorothy was an avid bird watcher and loved all animals, especially her kitties. She and her husband hiked and cross-country skied in many of our national parks. They also enjoyed sailing and taking "flying vacations" in their small Beechcraft airplane. Dorothy's travels took her to all 50 states. She enjoyed doing things for others and working in her garden, tending to the many flowers and trees that her mother had planted. Dorothy loved America and, whenever she saw a serviceman or servicewoman in uniform, she would go up to them and thank them for all they are doing for us.
Per Dorothy's wishes, there will be no viewing. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 3, from 11:00 a.m. until noon at Our Lady of Hungary Catholic Church, 829 W. Calvert St., South Bend, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
The Mass will be live streamed. Please visit Zoom.com, click on join a meeting, enter 574-287-7125 as meeting ID number, then enter passcode 0000. Dorothy was a "hoot" she liked you or she didn´t. I was a lucky one, she taught me the art of curling with bits of paper. She told me her and her nieces used to do this when they would come visit. I loved her "dry" sense of humor. She was very proud of all her nephews and nieces.RIP dear friend!
