Dorothy’s beloved soul departed this world on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at St. Luke’s Home in her hometown of Dickinson, North Dakota.
Dorothy Frances Wolberg was born in Dickinson on June 2, 1931, to Michael and Agnes (Ficek) Wolberg. She attended school in New Hradec through the eighth grade. She then worked a couple of jobs around Dickinson, including a position at the S&L Clothing Store. Dorothy married the love of her life, Edward Thielen, on October 10, 1951, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dickinson. This union resulted in four cherished children: Linda, Lloyd, Dan, and Ken. The couple watched their children grow on the Thielen farm, located southeast of Dickinson, which they purchased from Joe and Emma Thielen. Edward passed away on September 7, 1981. Dorothy remained on the farm for a short time before moving into the city of Dickinson.
Dorothy’s social-butterfly personality was perfect for her next work adventure at Final Touch, and she’ll go down in history as the secretary/treasurer- bookkeeper for Shipley School District (the last operating rural school in the district).
Dorothy was blessed to find love again, and married Jack Heidt on September 22, 1986. Jack passed away March 20, 2006.
Dorothy was a fun-spirited lady who lived life to the fullest, always active and socializing. She hosted the best barn dances with bands that the whole neighborhood would attend. She was an active member of a Farmers Union Group, Close Friends Birthday Club, St. Joseph’s Church, and Leap Year Homemakers Club. Dorothy thoroughly enjoyed raising her chickens, ducks, and turkeys, and had a knack for caring for plants and flowers - her bachelor buttons and cosmos flower gardens were beautiful. Dorothy was well-known for her cooking skills. She always prepared the most delicious meals for anyone who sat at her table. Some of the family favorites include fried chicken, mashed potatoes, cucumber salad, and her homemade pickles and beets with fresh peach pie. Nobody ever went home hungry. Dorothy leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Dorothy is survived by her four children: Linda (George) Sykora of Dickinson: grandkids, Christina Lynn (Justin) Wallin, Chandler (Jen) Raab, Kelly (Kacey) Sykora, step-grandkids, Curt (Michelle) Sykora, Lori (Jason) Steckler, Lisa (Fred) Fridley, Kris (Brandon) Martz, great-grandkids, Austin Wolfgram, Elijah & Ivy Wallin, Gabriel Raab, Brady & Jared Sykora, Hannah & Jack Steckler, Ella & Eden Fridley, Wyatt Martz; Lloyd Thielen of Dickinson; Dan Thielen of Dickinson: grandkids, Taylor (Breana) Thielen, Collin (Mia) Thielen, step-grandkids, Brad Binder, Kristopher (Ilena) Binder, great- grandson, Jaxson Thielen, step-great-grandkids, Kylen & Mika Binder: Ken (Brenda) Thielen of Dickinson: grandkids, Casey (Clay) Swan, Ashley Thielen, Brittany (John) Knopik, great-grandkids, Andee & Poppy Swan, and Eddie Clairborne; step-son, Don (Jackie) Heidt, step-daughter-in-law Karen Heidt; sister, Mari Anne Geck, numerous nieces, nephews and friends that loved her dearly.
