Dorothy Hoffine Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, Inc. on Dec. 28, 2025.
Dorothy S. Hoffine, who passed away peacefully at her home in Bonner Springs, Kansas, on Thursday, December 25, 2025. She was 80 years old.

Dorothy was born on September 23, 1945, in Kansas City, Kansas, and spent her formative years in Bonner Springs, where she graduated from Bonner Springs High School in 1963. A spirited individual, Dorothy was a talented baton twirler for her high school and once had the honor of leading the American Royal Parade with her sister, Joanie.

Throughout her career, Dorothy dedicated many years as a skilled bookkeeper for her family's businesses, first for Hoffine Automotive and later for Built To Fit Custom Cabinets. Beyond her professional life, she was a member of the First Christian Church in Bonner Springs and generously volunteered her time for many years with the Bonner Springs Police Department's VIPS (Volunteers in Police Service) program, serving her community with dedication and care.

Dorothy was renowned for her culinary talents, especially for preparing hearty breakfasts for her family and baking her famous sheet cakes for countless football banquets, a tradition cherished by many. She found immense joy in camping by the lake with her loved ones and had a special affection for children, often volunteering to assist on school buses. Her warm spirit and generosity touched many lives.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved parents and her siblings, Wes, Ken, Laura, Mary, and Joan.

She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Jim Hoffine, of the home. She leaves behind three devoted sons: Steve Hoffine and his wife, Michelle, of Olathe, Kansas; Jerry Hoffine and his wife, Kristi, of Bonner Springs, Kansas; and Mike Hoffine and his wife, Allison, of Paola, Kansas. Dorothy's legacy also continues through her eight grandchildren, including Jeremy (and his wife, Liz), Nick, Haley (and her spouse, Jordyn), Hayden, Hallie, Hoyt, Lane, and Archer. She was also a proud great-grandmother to Cairo, Jadelle, Carter, and Matthias.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday morning, December 31, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs, Kansas. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will take place at the Bonner Springs Cemetery.
