Dorothy Lee (Scott) Mantooth was born in Olathe, Kansas, on October 29, 1931, to "Guy" Leslie Scott and Hazel Pearl (McGehee) Scott. She passed from this life in Lindsay, Oklahoma, on August 18, 2021, at the age of 89.
Dorothy moved to Lindsay in 1951. Her father worked in the oilfield and moved his family all over the United States. But when Dorothy became a resident in Lindsay, this town became her hometown, where she put down roots. Dorothy married J.L. 'Jody' Mantooth on August 7, 1953. They had three sons; Richard "Wildcat", Joe "Curly", and David "Lum". Dorothy was a hard worker. She helped her husband Jody run the family dairy farm, mothered three boys and was a CLEET certified Dispatcher for the Lindsay Police Department. Not only did she dispatch for Lindsay, but also Maysville and Elmore City Police departments, taking and dispatching calls all from the same office, until her retirement in 1994.
Dorothy enjoyed life, plain and simple. She was a member of the Lindsay First Christian Church. She looked forward to attending Bible studies and going to church. She was an avid reader and loved the challenge of doing puzzles. She enjoyed playing bingo and before health issues, going to the casinos and traveling with her friends. Dorothy loved her children and grandchildren and was a wonderful friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, J.L. 'Jody' Mantooth, son Richard G. "Wildcat" Mantooth, sister, Margery (Scott) Faulkenberry, brother-in-law, Bob Faulkenberry, and one infant nephew, Mitchell Faulkenberry.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Joe R. "Curly" Mantooth and wife Mercy of Lindsay, Oklahoma, and David T. "Lum" Mantooth and wife Shelley of Lindsay, Oklahoma, grandchildren: Jennifer (Mantooth) Moore of Lindsay, Oklahoma, Amber (Mantooth) Mitchell and husband Joe of Arlington, Texas, and Jacob Mantooth and Paige Mantooth of Lindsay, Oklahoma, and great-grandchildren: Baily and Blaine Moore of Lindsay, Oklahoma, and Camden and Jaxon Mitchell of Arlington, Texas.
A graveside service to honor the life of Dorothy is set to begin at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at the Green Hill Cemetery in Lindsay, Oklahoma, with Mike Somers officiating.
Services are under the direction of Scott and Angel Wilbourn of Wilbourn Family Funeral Home in Lindsay, Oklahoma. Condolences may be made to the family online at www.wilbournfamilyfuneralhome.com
