Skyvue Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens - MansfieldDorothy Rice McHenry, known lovingly as "Dot" to family and friends, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2025, in Mansfield, Texas. She was 95 years old.
Born in Newport, Vermont, Dot grew up around the corner in Derby where her love for history and adventure first took root. She graduated from the University of Vermont in Burlington with a degree in History and a lifelong connection to her sorority, Delta Delta Delta. She went from there to work for the FBI for several years before marrying Paul T. McHenry, Jr. She later spent many years in service to the elderly.
Dot was a woman who embraced life with curiosity and courage. She was not afraid to move and explore, living in nine different states including Maryland four times and Washington, D.C. twice. Her adventurous spirit took her to 14 different countries, collecting memories and stories along the way.
A passionate genealogist, Dot took great pride in tracing her family lineage, discovering direct ancestors who arrived in America on the Mayflower and other ships of the colonial period, with roots extending deep into the British Isles through many previous generations. Her love for history was matched only by her appreciation for life's simple pleasures: reading, chocolate, coffee, root beer, and a good glass of white wine.
Dot is survived by her three children (and spouses): Stephen Rice McHenry (Mary Ann), Stuart Andrew McHenry (Sue), and Susan McHenry Dewbrew (Gregory). She was “Grammy” to eight grandchildren: Jonathan McHenry (Mattie), Michael McHenry (Bethany), Daniel McHenry, Benjamin King, Courtney Board (Chase), Jaclyn King (Danny Rivera), Carly McClure (Aaron), and Haley McClure (Adam). She was also blessed with six great-grandchildren: Serenity King, Connor Baldridge, Diana McHenry, Hypatia McHenry, Julia McHenry, and Gemma McClure, with even more on the way. She is also survived by her nephew William Rice (Gloria) and his children, Warren Rice and Caroline Forni (Steve).
Dorothy's legacy lives on through these generations. She always had to have family member photos on display and would brag about each and every one.
The graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on September 21st at Derby Line Cemetery, Baxter Ave, Derby Line, Vermont.
7220 Rendon Bloodworth Rd, Mansfield, TX 76063
