Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Care - WaterburyWATERBURY - It is with profound sadness that the family of Dorothy M. McIntosh, age 85, of Waterbury, Connecticut, share the news of her peaceful passing on November 18, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on August 8, 1940, in Sunbury, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Ruth Smith and James Smith Sr.. She later moved to Waterbury, Connecticut, where she graduated from Croft High School and built a life rooted in love, faith, and dedication. Dorothy worked for many years as a compassionate healthcare worker at the former Oakcliff Nursing Home, where she was known for her gentle heart, kindness, and the comfort she brought to others. A woman of deep faith, she was a devoted member of the Refuge Church of Christ in Waterbury. Her strong belief in God, steady spirit, and generous heart guided her throughout her life. Above all, Dorothy lived her entire life devoted to her children, always placing their needs, happiness, and well-being at the center of her world.
She leaves behind her daughter Sheila McIntosh, and her sons Jesse McIntosh, Todd McIntosh, Theodore McIntosh, and Jamil Lawrence, along with Jamil’s beloved partner Stacey Mandato. Dorothy is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Jamil Lawrence, Nakesha McIntosh, Edie Peterson, Sophie Clapp, Juwan Overton, Taiwan Overton, Jashia Samuel, Tiara McIntosh, Robin McIntosh, and Alaina Mandato, as well as her beloved great-grandchildren Makhi McIntosh and Makayla McIntosh. She also leaves behind her brother, James R. Smith Jr. (Clara) and her sisters, Muriel Smith Glenn (James) and Monica McCarron. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth Smith and James Smith Sr. and her brother in law, John McCarron.
Dorothy will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her strength, her faith, and the warmth she shared with everyone blessed to know her.
Funeral services for Ms. McIntosh will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, when a Beautiful Farewell service will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main St, Waterbury, CT 06705. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury. Relatives and friends may pay their respects and visit with Dorothy’s family on Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the service commences at 11:30 a.m. at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care.
