Dorothy R. Semedo

FALL RIVER – Dorothy "Dot" R. Semedo, 96, formerly of West Wareham, died Thursday, March 27, 2025, at her home surrounded by family. She was the wife of the late Antone "Tony" Semedo, Jr. to whom she was married for 71 years.
Born in Falmouth, she was the daughter of the late Manuel Gonsalves of Teaticket, who passed away when she was an infant, and Mary (Gonsalves) Roderick. Dot grew up on the Cape and held a special place in her heart for her beloved grandmother, Antonia Montero Antunes Gonsalves.
Faith, family, and friends were at the heart of Dot's life. She spent her days and nights making the world a better place for others. Among her many roles over the years, Dot worked as an orderly at Taunton State Hospital, as a screener and picker for Ocean Spray, and was a home health aide. She was a member of the former Hebron Gospel Tabernacle in Oakdale and attended the Tabernacle of Praise in Wareham.
Dot was blessed with a delightful sense of humor, a creative soul, an indomitable spirit, and the grit of an iron horse. Her home was a true pride and joy, especially when filled with people for whom she could cook and bake. Never one to sit still for long, when she did, she was likely to be doodling cartoons, knitting a scarf, reading a magazine, writing a letter, or piecing together a puzzle.
She is survived by her 11 children, Tony (Stacie Nelson), Maxine (Thomas) Teixeira, David (Suzanne), Debbie Teixeira, Mark, Karen, John (Kimberly), Amy White, Kim, Carolyn (Reed) Semedo-Strauss, and Melissa. Also surviving are her 18 grandchildren and five great grandchildren, and several nieces and cousins. She was predeceased by her sisters, Betty Gonsalves and Irene Williams, her granddaughter, Racheal, her niece, Ruth Ann Semedo-Gomes, and her nephews, Anthony and Louis (Junior) Williams.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – Wareham, 2599 Cranberry Hwy. (Rt. 28), Wareham from 10 to 11 AM. A funeral service will follow at 11 AM. Burial to follow at Center Cemetery, Wareham.
