Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mount Scott Funeral Home - Portland on Jun. 10, 2025.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy "Dottie" Marie Stai, a loving wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma (GG as she preferred), and a truly remarkable woman. Dorothy's courageous battle with alzheimer's and dementia came to an end on June 2, 2025; she was 92 years young; her 93rd birthday would've been this Aug 29th.
Dorothy IMMENSELY enjoyed spending time with her family. She could be just hanging out with them, game night, dinners, vacations, camping, attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's athletic events....she couldn't get enough. She also LOVED animals. She would always have a nummy (treat), close by, and delightedly showered them all with her affection. Their two cats, Felix and Oscar (Siamese brothers), were most certainly her favorites during her early retirement years. They traveled the United States in style with Mom and Dad riding along on their many RV trips.
Early in her life, she enlisted in the United States Army Women's Corps and served in Germany. As a parent, she volunteered with Girl Scouts for nine years. This volunteer spirit carried on in her retirement years as a welcoming ambassador for new residents at The Springs, where she and DuWayne have lived for over a decade. She was also a proud volunteer for YLI, the Young Ladies Institute. A Catholic organization whose principles are founded on charity and love and carried out through mentorship, education, scholarships, and other various charitable works.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband - DuWayne of 70+ years; younger stepsister - Carol Bidwell; her son - Roy; daughter/husband - Patti and Andy Lange; grandchildren - Suzanne Davis, Jennifer Leddin, Cory and Chris Lange; great grandchildren - Brianna and Alex Lenoir, Taylor Davis, River and Myles Lange, Addison and Cayden Leddin.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother, Rose, and stepfather, Ed Johnson, and stepbrother Jerry Johnson.
We love you, dear wife, mother, grandma, and great grandma (GG). We miss you, and most importantly, we will never ever forget you!
WE LOVE YOU MORE!
