Rogers-Pickard Funeral HomeDorothy Gainey Sloan Watson, 89, of Sanford went to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday August 28, 2025. She was a member of Cool Spring Baptist Church and an active member of the SOUL Sisters and JOY groups for many years.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to so many. She enjoyed spending lots of quality time with family along with traveling, playing canasta in the “Eight of Hearts” Club, and gardening. She delighted in growing flowers that would attract hummingbirds which she loved to watch. She also made the best chicken and dumplings and chocolate pies. She has passed down her recipes, but it won’t be the same without her with us.
Dorothy was born October 14, 1935, in Selma NC, daughter of the late Joe Frank Gainey and Mary Ellen Lee Gainey. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 49 years Bobby Leonidas Sloan, and second husband Joseph Fred Watson, siblings Mary Ella Grove, Judy Carson, and Reuben Gainey, and daughter-in-law Beverly Pruitt Sloan.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Barbara Sue Taylor (Larry), sons Bobby Lynn Sloan (Pat), and Kenneth Lee Sloan (Wanda); grandchildren, Robert Taylor, Elizabeth Winkler (Chad), Kirby Sloan (Kourtney), Emily Harris (Trent), Brock Sloan (Emily), and Larry Bridges (Christine); great grandchildren, Alex Taylor, Andrew Taylor, McKenzie Winkler, Ethan Winkler, Blake Bridges, Tyler Bridges, Leo Sloan, Finley Sloan, Kennedy Sloan, Kannon Sloan, Sloan Harris, and her sister-in-law Deborah Gainey.
