Dorothy Elaine Wright, nee Thompson (Bowdoin) of Valdosta, Georgia, affectionately known by her family as Aunt Noo and Mehaw, went to be with the Lord on November 19, 2024, at the age of 93. Born in Perry, Florida on April 26, 1931, she was a loving mother, grandmother, gardener, and an avid bird watcher.
Elaine graduated from Taylor County High School in 1948. During her younger years, she loved attending Saturday night dances at the Pavillion at Keaton Beach. Elaine was a skilled athlete with a natural talent for sports. Whether it was on a basketball court playing for Taylor County High, or on a softball field where she excelled as a third baseman, Elaine's competitive spirit and love for the game always shone through. She enjoyed watching football, golf, baseball, NASCAR races, and was a strong supporter of Valdosta High School sports and marching band.
In her professional life, Elaine worked in the bindery at Valdosta Printing Company, where her dedication and hard work left a lasting impact on her colleagues and friends. Known for her work ethic and attention to detail, she took pride in her craftsmanship and the quality of her work. She was known for her countless, witty sayings. Above all, she loved her family.
Elaine is preceded in death by her spouses Warren E. Bowdoin and George T. Wright; parents, Royce Linton and Bertha Kent Thompson; brothers Royce, Elbert, Cullen, Larry, Robert, Hal Thompson; and sister Mary Frances Croft.
Elaine is survived by her children Ronald Warren Bowdoin, Robert Irvin Bowdoin (Barbara), Frances Bowdoin Williams (Dennis "Jerry"), and Sidney Linton Bowdoin (Angela); grandchildren Beth (Greg), Charlene, Anthony (Kinsley), Christine, Melissa, Lindsey, Darren (Jessica), Andrew (Miranda), Brandon (Ashley) and William; great-grandchildren Garrett (Brittany), Kaitlin, Tyler, Kelsey, Lilly, Brody, Brinley, Jordan, Adam, Tucker, Hallie, Mason, Jameson, Austin, Tayler, Kaylee (Victor), Grady, Noah, Emma, Thompson, Ethan, Everly, Eli, Briggs, Ezra, and Elaina; great-great grandchild Garrison; and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration Service to honor the life of Elaine will be held at Joe P. Burns Funeral Home of Perry, Florida on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. with visitation beginning one hour prior. Following the service, a ceremony will take place in the Thompson Family plot at Woodlawn Cemetery alongside her family. Pall bearers are Greg Jones, Anthony Bowdoin, Darren Williams, Andrew Williams, Brandon Williams, and Will Bowdoin. Honorary pall bearers are Grady Williams and Noah Williams.
Elaine will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her spirit and love will forever remain in the hearts of those whose lives she touched. May she rest in peace with her Savior Jesus Christ.
Special thanks to Kristy for her hospice care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia.
