Dorothy Yahner passed away at age 96 on Wednesday morning, May 7, 2025, peacefully at St. John XXIII nursing home. She was born on November 30, 1928, in Papeete, Tahiti.
Dorothy married Raymond John Yahner in 1956 and was a homemaker. They lived in McKees Rocks, Pittsburgh until they moved to Greenville in 1969.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, (died 2005), a daughter, Patty (died 2005).
She is survived by her daughter, Jenny Garland and her daughter Savannah Campbell (Nathan, son-in-law), Charles Yahner, his wife Robyn, and their three children, Jocelyn Yahner, Taylor Yahner and Ian Yahner.
Dorothy led a very interesting life being able to speak 9 languages and as a young girl she was friends with author and adventurist, Zane Grey, who was a family friend. She also interpreted for Charles De Gaulle, French general and statesman and they corresponded by letter until the early 1960's.
She was an avid bird watcher and animal lover, she could revive any plant to its ultimate beauty. She was an excellent cook and loved to feed you and she was a great scrabble player.
She was a talented painter and photographer winning many ribbons throughout her life. She was one of the oldest personal carry permit holders of Mercer County.
Dorothy was highly ranked in Tai Chi and studied and performed till her early 80s in that discipline.
She was also a music lover, Bob Seger, Willie Nelson and anything by Pink Floyd.
Dorothy's family wishes to thank the St John XXIII staff and the staff at the Farrell Wound Center for their wonderful, talented and gentle care.

Dorothy was an amazing person. I had the pleasure of knowing her over 25 years. Picking up or dropping off a mower or tiller was never boring. A few times I got roped into helping prepare pies. LOL. I will miss her
