Age 74 of Morris, Illinois, died unexpectedly on Sunday, March 30, 2025 at his home.
Born November 21, 1950 in Morris, Douglas Paul was a son of Robert and Natalie (Eckland) Macdonald. He was raised and educated in Morris, graduated from Morris Community High School with the Class of 1968, and attended Eastern Illinois University. On June 9, 1973 Doug married Elizabeth “Betty” Mason in Libertyville, Illinois. Together they would establish their family and make their home in Morris.
Doug worked for many years as an insurance agent and mortgage broker in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago. He then transitioned to working as a correctional officer for the Grundy County Sheriff’s office for several years before retiring. Doug was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Morris, past member of the Lions Club and Kiwanis, and a proud Eagle Scout. He was an avid collector of all things, but especially baseball cards and stamps. Doug also would stay up to date with current events, closely following the stock market, and took great pleasure in reading and playing the Lotto.
Above all else, he was a devoted family man. Doug was a proud husband and father, and cherished his role as “Poppie” to his beloved grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Betty Macdonald, and two sons: Ryan (Angela) Macdonald and Alec (Mikki) Macdonald, all of Morris; six grandchildren: Hayden, Landon, Griffin, Harper, Lilly, and Theo; one brother, Scott (Bonnie) Macdonald of Kingsport, Tennessee; two brothers-in-law: Steve (Wanda) Mason of Moses Lake, Washington and Larry (Judy) Mason of Virginia; one sister-in-law, Betty Bridges of Sommersworth, New Hampshire, and several nieces.
