Douglas Jay Adams

BURLEY – Douglas Jay (Doug) Adams, 79, of Burley, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 18, 2025, at home. A joyous reunion took place when Doug and Edie finally got to be together and hold hands again after being apart for six months.
Doug was born August 10, 1946, in Burley, Idaho, to Forest Douglas and Mary Martin Adams. He was the oldest of four; his siblings include Larry, Duane and Karla. He graduated from Burley High School in 1964 and attended Idaho State University. He met Edith (Edie) Horne when they were 14 years old and had been together ever since. They were married on March 3, 1966, in Burley and had been married for 59 years. They were blessed with one daughter, Danielle, who was born on November 27, 1966.
Doug learned at an early age how to work. He started at the age of 11 mowing lawns, age 12 delivering newspapers for the Times-News, and age 14 working at the service station his father worked at. He started work at Harpster's Bakery then Albertsons. In his senior year of high school he went to work for Service Parts Company. After graduating from ISU he went to work at Haight Motors. After two years he started work at Firestone Tire for 17 years where he ended as manager. When the store closed here he transferred to Twin Falls as an outside salesman and realized he wanted to be back in Burley. He went to work for Garry's Tire for 22 years while also working for the Cassia County Sheriff's Office after hours and on weekends for 11 years, when he transitioned to and found his passion in the EMT line of work. When an opening became available at the hospital to go full time, he jumped at the opportunity. He became the supervisor for the ambulance for nine years. He retired on January 1, 2015. He worked for the hospital for a total of 32 years.
Doug earned his Eagle Scout and held various church callings. He served as Scoutmaster and assistant Scoutmaster, served in the elders quorum and High Priest group presidencies, ward clerk, ward and stake Sunday School presidencies, Young Mens presidency, stake missionary, and, served a church mission at the LDS Unemployment Center for three years with Edie.
After retiring and being told he needed to slow down, he found a new passion for art. He loved going to the Burley Senior Center every Thursday and meeting up with a group of fellow artists, where they shared techniques, stories and friendship with one another.
Doug is survived by their only daughter, Danielle (Randy) Jones of Burley; five grandchildren, Travis (Brianna) Jones of Burley, Courtney (Tony) McIntyre of San Bernardino, California, McKay (Jessica) Coltrin of Kuna, Kody (Megan) Coltrin of Burley, and Peyton Jones of Burley; four great-grandchildren, Deacon Jones, Erik McIntyre, Ryan McIntyre, and Hanna McIntyre, with one due in January and one due in April; his sister, Karla York; brother, Larry (Kathy) Adams; as well as numerous extended family members.
In addition to his wife, Edie, he was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Duane Adams; his in-laws, Lorin Richard and Ida Horne; brother-in-law, Jerry York; and sisters-in-law, Sharon Smith and Marsha Horne.
Doug's legacy of endless acts of service will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew him.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, August 29, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Burley Idaho West Stake Center, located at 2420 Parke Avenue, in Burley, with Bishop Cade Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Basin Cemetery in Oakley.
Family and friends will be received from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, August 28, at Rasmussen-Wilson Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th Street, in Burley, and from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Friday, preceding the funeral, at the church.
The family requests to please wear colorful clothes, as we are celebrating his life.
