Douglas M. Day, age 71 went to be with the Lord on October 30, 2022, after a long battle with multiple sclerosis.
Doug was born September 5, 1951, the son of the late Dwayne and Luana Hindes Day.
He was a graduate of Wintersville High School, and Jefferson Technical College. An avid model railroader, Doug spent most of his adult life working on his train layouts. He enjoyed time with his family and loved taking trips to Cass Scenic Railroad in West Virginia.
Doug spent his early years teaching at Wintersville Christian Academy. He was a beloved teacher with a great sense of humor. He was a member of Colonial Baptist Church and Pilgrim Lodge #691 F. & A.M. Steubenville, OH.
He and his wife Kathy owned Day's florist in Wheeling for many years and later moved the business to Martins Ferry where they resided. He and Kathy returned to their home town of Steubenville after the sale of the florist.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Denise Longo.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kathleen Day of Steubenville and four adult children, Bernadette (Jeff) Urbanski, Douglas (Alicia) Day Jr., Dwayne Day, and Daniel (Natalee) Day. Doug is also survived by his grandchildren Ethan, Luke, Steven, and Aaliyah, and step-grandchildren Alex and Nick Urbanski. Doug also leaves behind his brother Greg (Sandy) Day and sister Cyndy (Steve) Abbuhl. He also leaves behind lots of grand-dogs and other pets.
We give an abundance of gratitude to the tireless and dedicated staff at Carriage Inn, where Doug called home for the last nine years. This staff of angels has surrounded Doug with incredible TLC for years.
Family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4pm at Colonial Baptist Church, 201 Gumps Lane, Wintersville, OH with a Celebration of Life Service at 4pm with Pastor Dave Fetter officiating.
Arrangements entrusted to Grisell Funeral Home & Crematory, Wheeling, WV.
