Douglas Diamond Obituary

Douglas A. “Doug” Diamond (aka “Coach”), 63, passed away at his home in Port St. Lucie, Florida, on Saturday, October 25, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Lansing, Michigan, and raised in Bloomington, Minnesota; Sioux City, Iowa; and later Alpena, Michigan. Doug grew up alongside his beloved brothers Michael R. Diamond and Bruce G. Diamond and his beloved sister, Cynthia L. Diamond. He was the son of the late Richard E. Diamond and Beatrice B. (Zaborney) Diamond.

After graduating from Alpena High School in 1980, Doug managed Clark Gas Stations in Alpena, Traverse City, and Battle Creek, Michigan.

In 1988, he married the love of his life, the late Deborah J. (Kieffer) Diamond and they had two children, Katherine E. Diamond-Porter and the late Matthew R. Diamond.

He later went on to become an award-winning territorial sales manager for Philip Morris for many years, building lasting relationships with store teams across Michigan.

Outside of work, Doug was known in the community as a beloved ice hockey coach for the Battle Creek Bruins. He coached players of all ages and touched countless lives over his years as a coach, leaving a legacy felt on and off the ice.

To say Doug was charismatic would be an understatement. He had a contagious smile, a light in his eyes, and an infectious energy that lifted every room. An optimist at heart, he made the most of each day and inspired those around him to do the same.

In 2012, he moved to Florida and began an 11-year career in car sales, excelling as a VIP specialist at Wallace Auto Group.

From the time he was a young boy, Doug was passionate about sports cars, driving, and racing. He was witty and funny, a talented nature and sports photographer, and an avid golfer. He loved technology and music, especially Classic Rock.

Doug’s influence endures in the love he gave and the optimism he inspired.

He is survived by his daughter, Katherine E. Diamond-Porter, and son-in-law, Michael S. Porter; daughter, Elizabeth K. Ward; grandchildren, Audrey G. Miller, Nadia H. Sekellick, Genevieve M. Mills, and Harrison D. Sekellick; stepdaughter, Shannon L. Laskovy; and nieces, Michele R. Diamond and Elizabeth A. Diamond.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate Doug’s life will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Haisley Tribute Center, 2041 SW Bayshore Blvd., Port St. Lucie, FL. Guests are welcome to gather and visit from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., with the formal service beginning at 2:00 p.m. A time of fellowship and light refreshments will follow.

A memorial service is scheduled to be held in Michigan at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Greater Battle Creek Ice Hockey Association in his memory. You may send checks to P.O. Box 2545, Battle Creek, MI 49016.
