Douglas Hansen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Walker Sanderson Funeral Home & Crematory - Orem on Nov. 6, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Douglas S. Hansen passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Doug was born on June 21, 1954, in Price, Utah, to Stanley Hansen and Elaine Crapo Carson. He married RuthAnn Christiansen on February 14, 1975, in the Provo Temple. They later divorced, but remained connected through their shared love for family.
Doug's greatest love was his family, but the outdoors came a very close second. A true pioneer, he was one of the first climbers in American Fork Canyon, forging routes that would inspire and challenge future generations. He turned his passion into a lifelong career by opening Hansen Mountaineering in Orem, Utah. A place that became more than a business; it became a gathering spot for friends and adventurers who shared his love for the mountains.
Throughout his life, Doug led and participated in expeditions to some of the world's most iconic peaks, including Mount Everest, Mount McKinley, and Mount Rainier. His adventurous spirit, kindness, and humility left a lasting mark on all who knew him.
He is survived by his children Michelle (Adam) Hall, Paul (Brooke) Hansen, Jeromy (Kiki) Hansen, and Melissa (Wade) Jasperson; his father Stanley Hansen; siblings Sean Carson, Dennyce Colton, DeEtte Jensen, Jae Hansen, and Rebecca Hansen; thirteen grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother Elaine, stepfather Gene, brothers Lane and Greg, and sister Carrie.
Doug's life was one of adventure, friendship, and deep love for family. His legacy will continue in the mountains he climbed and the hearts of those who loved him.
A graveside service will be held at Pleasant Grove Cemetery on Monday, November 10, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.
