Obituary of Douglas Alan Hoselton
Douglas Alan Hoselton, of Buckeye, Arizona, passed away March 30, 2022 at home surrounded by his family.
Doug was born in Parkersburg, WV on November 14, 1950 to John L and Tillie Hoselton. He was a 1968 graduate of Parkersburg High School and a 1972 graduate of Glenville State College. He married his first wife, Susie, in 1971 and had three children; Sean, Kelly and Doug Jr. In 2015, Doug married Kaylene and gained two additional children. They shared four wonderful grandchildren - Annie, Suki, Alex and Gwendolyn.
Doug was a beloved mentor and coach beginning with high school football, then in the inaugural Parkersburg Catholic Crusaderette women's basketball team. He coached the Crusaderettes from 1972-1980 and won the first Class A Championship in 1979. Doug continued his coaching career in women's basketball at the University of New Mexico from 1980-1987 and New Mexico State from 1989-1993. He was the assistant coach at Penn State in 1987-1988 and Virginia Commonwealth from 2003-2004. When he wasn't coaching, Doug was busy with his two businesses - Coach's Deli in Tucson, Arizona and Thu West in Tucson/Phoenix. He eventually retired as the Assistant Director of the Palo Verde Nuclear Plant. Doug loved his family and friends, basketball, and coaching. He signed many overlooked athletes with his ability to uncover "diamonds in the rough." He believed in his players and staff and recently received a message regarding the Crusaderettes' most recent win. It read in part, "and to think it was, and is, possible because you believed in the young women who came to you and wanted to play basketball. You are wonderfully special."
Doug is predeceased by his infant son, Sean, parents John L. and Tillie Hoselton, brother, J.D., brother-in-law Junius Crowgey, mother-in-law Diane Allen, and stepdaughter Charmaine Davis. He leaves behind his wife and best friend, Kaylene, his children Kelly Hinson(David), Doug Jr. (D.J. or Ralph, as Doug called him), stepdaughter Michelle Owen, and sister, Mary Beth Crowgey. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many cousins.
Doug was an organ donor in hopes that one day PSP(Progressive Supranuclear Palsy) will have a cure. Donations can be made at donations @ curepsp.com.
