As a cousin of Doug's, I too have many fond memories of our childhood together. Not quiet as extreme as his and my brother Verns starving in the wilderness. But plenty of family camping trips, weekends at Bodega Bay playing in the dunes, Holidays together and summers spent in hot Vacaville. Where Doug introduced my brother and I to coffee drinking. Using his recipe of course.Which consisted of mostly sugar and creamer, with a drop or two of coffee.
When I look back on my childhood... All my best memories are with my cousins. And for that I am very blessed and appreciative that Doug was a very big part of that.
Heartfelt condolences to his family, his children, and his granddaughter.

My favorite memory I shared with Doug is when we went camping together for a whole month at Woods Lake. I really enjoyed fishing with him and exploring the area while we backpacked. I remember us running out of food and trying to catch fish in order to survive, which we weren't very successful at due to the cold, windy weather. In the end, we resorted to calling our parents, Betty and Susan, to come up and save us with groceries. I will miss you a lot and will always treasure the memories we made together when we were young.
