Douglas R. Hutchings, Sr., affectionately known as Doug to his friends and family, embarked on his life's journey on August 26, 1951, in Middletown, NY. He was a beacon of love and generosity, whose life was a testament to his strong Christian values. After dealing with serious health issues for the past six months he passed away on July 23, 2025. Doug's greatest joy was his family. He shared almost 50 years of love and friendship with his beloved wife, Mary. Together, they raised a family rooted in faith, integrity and strong values. As a father, he led by example-steady, kind, and always present. He was so proud of his children Krista and her husband Scott and his son Douglas. Doug graduated from Middletown High School and continued his education earning a BA from Empire State College. Doug succeeded his father, Roy, as president of Hutchings Agency Inc, a family run independent insurance agency serving Orange County and beyond for over six decades. In recent years, Doug enjoyed working alongside and mentoring his son Douglas, readying him to take on the leadership of the agency. Doug's professional life was marked by his deep integrity and quiet professionalism. His warm personal touch made his colleagues and customers feel valued, turning business relationships into lasting friendships.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Doug's faith was the cornerstone of his life. A committed Christian, he was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church and donated generously to many charitable organizations and neighbors in need. His faith was not just a belief system but a way of life that he lived through his actions both at home and in the office.
Doug enjoyed golf, working out in the gym, and spending time at his lake house in Richfield Springs, NY. Above all, his primary hobby was spending time with his wife Mary. Doug is predeceased by his sister, Marjorie, father, Roy, mother, Evelyn and his brother Roger. He is survived by his devoted wife Mary, daughter, Krista Gallagher and her husband Scott, son, Douglas Hutchings Jr., his sister, Carol Ann Renwick and her husband, Steve, his many in laws, nieces and nephews, and dear friends. Everyone loved Doug! His wake will be held on Friday, July 25, 3:00pm-6:00pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Middletown, NY, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, July 26 at 11:00am at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Otisville, New York. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Holy Name Church, Otisville, NY.
