Douglas Arnold Jones, son of Isabelle Floyd and Willie Jones was born on August 8, 1943, in Lumberton, North Carolina. He departed this earthly life on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at Holy Cross Hospital. He was raised and nurtured by his maternal grandparents, McKenley & Kathleen Floyd, after his mom and older sister, Willie Catherine moved to Philadelphia, PA., when Doug was two years old. When Doug was older, he traveled to Philadelphia many times to visit his mom and sister.
He was a United States Army Veteran, having served in the Vietnam War. He received an honorable discharge after completing his tour of duty. He worked for the Law firm of Arnold and Porter for twenty-five years, in charge of four departments during his leadership. He later worked and retired from the Clark Construction Company. Doug was an avid gardener and farmer, having grown his own vegetables and planted shrubs, trees, and flowers up and down Southern Avenue. He also cared for the lawns of his Southern Avenue neighbors and others in DC and Maryland for over forty years.
Doug married the former Sandra Middleton and to this union, his only child Douglas Kenneth Jones was born in June 1983. In October 2004 Doug lost one of his good friends and neighbor Samuel Middleton. He also received a blessing of his only grandchild Kaloni Markwai being born that month. Doug often has his son and grandson helping him with the yards and picking up trash and bottles up and down Southern Avenue. He left a large trash can on his porch, to help with the litter pick-up for anyone to use. He managed a mobile car wash truck along with his older brother Willie, before Willie and his family retired to South Carolina. He sold apparel, shoes, and household goods for many years at the Suitland Road Carwash before it closed.
Doug was predeceased by his wife, Bertha Morton-Jones; parents, Willie and Isabelle Jones, grandparents, McKenley & Kathleen Floyd; brother, Willie Jones; sister, Willie Catherine Woolford.
Family and friends left to mourn his loss, his son, Douglas Kenneth; devoted grandson, Kaloni Markwai; his forty-plus year next-door neighbors, Ms. DeeDee Abraham and Mrs. Edna Abraham; three brothers-in-law, Ulysses "Cle" Morton, Clint Wayne Morton (Veronica), Miguel Morton, and Rickey Morton (Deborah); two sisters-in-law, Jacqueline Clemons and Marilyn Morton; goddaughter, Crystal Stuckey-Nash (Antonio); former wife, Sandra Jones; many other relatives, friends, and former co-workers.
