His expertise extended to energy conservation consultancy in Juneau, Alaska, and finally owning Briar Hill Farm in Herron, Michigan.
Outside of his professional life, Doug enjoyed collecting carved decoys and fishing lures. He was an avid reader of local authors and took pleasure in mentoring young people in agricultural practices, particularly in cattle production.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Georgia Lee (Brown) Kirkpatrick, his father, Edwin Elliott Kirkpatrick, and his mother, Marjorie Jean (Bowers) Kirkpatrick. Doug will be missed by his neighbors and friends throughout the area along with life-long friend, Ken Sheaff and his family who shared vacations over the years. Ken's son, Randy, especially remembered the help Doug and Lee gave him as he attended Alpena Community College where Lee taught classes.
A graduate of Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, where his studies included Economics, Political Science and Environmental Science. He made time to talk to others, whether discussing investing for retirement or his farming experiences.
