Douglas James Kurts, beloved husband, brother, and friend passed away at home on Sunday, March 17th, 2024. His quick wit, kind heart, and positive spirit never diminished even during the eight months battle with brain cancer that claimed his life.

Doug was born March 31, 1967, in Grangeville, ID to Ima (Oliver) and Jesse Kurts, after attending Vallivue and Homedale High Schools Doug attending truck driving school and obtained his Class A License, which became his ticket to thirty years of adventure traversing the country from the cab of his big rig.

A man of unwavering determination and tireless work ethic Doug's strength and resilience were matched only by his quick wit and infectious sense of humor. As the fourth of five siblings, he effortlessly assumed the role of the family jokester, regaling loved ones and friends with tales and pranks that became the stuff of legend during their many camping and hunting expeditions.

Doug's true joy lay in his deep appreciation for the great outdoors. Whether he was hunting elusive game, setting up camp under the stars, or capturing the beauty of wildlife through a camera lens, he found solace and contentment in Idaho's rugged landscape.

After being Together for 5 years, On November 7, 2018 Doug married his kindred spirit Betty Heater, and together they embarked on countless adventures, filled with laughter and love. From hunting and camping to raising a lively menagerie of beloved dogs and cats, their bond was a testament to the enduring power of shared passion and deep friendship.

For Many in the community, Doug and Betty were synonymous with the spirit of fun and hospitality as they welcomed friends and family with open arms at the Roadside Bar & Grill which Betty ran downtown Kamiah. Their establishment became a cherished gathering place where laughter flowed freely, stories were shared, and memories were made that will endure for generations to come.

Doug's faith in Christ deepened over the years and became a profound source of strength and comfort to him during his illness, The family takes solace in knowing that Doug is now free from pain and safe in the presence of his Savior, and they look forward to a joyful reunion with him in Heaven one day.

Doug's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the laughter of his loved ones, the beauty of the wilderness he so adored, and the enduring memories of countless lives he touched along his journey.

Doug is survived by his wife Betty Heater of Kamiah ID, his brother Stan (Nancy)Kurts of Lewiston ID, his sister Linda (Clinton)Ward of Wilder ID, his brother Dan (Mary)Kurts of Charleston, NC and his brother Don (Lori)Kurts of Nampa, ID

A celebration of Doug's life with be held at the Life Center on Saturday, March 30 at 11:00 am where friends and family will gather to share stories, laughter, and fond memories of a man whose enthusiasm for life was as boundless as the horizon he so loved to explore; Potluck dinner will follow at the Kamiah VFW.
