Douglas James Lindberg, M.D.

January 17, 1977 – August 30, 2025

On the evening of Saturday, August 30, 2025, Douglas James Lindberg, M.D., age 48, passed peacefully from his earthly dwelling into the eternal presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ.

Born on January 17, 1977, at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago, IL, Doug spent his final days surrounded by the love of his family and the compassionate care of the staff at Angel's Grace Hospice in Oconomowoc, WI, after a courageous year-long battle with cancer, he now knows eternal healing and glory in heaven.

Doug's journey on this earth was marked by humor, compassion, deep love and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. He had a rare gift for connecting with people, making others laugh and offering encouragement. His life leaves a legacy of faith, service and kindness that will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Doug is survived by his exceptionally loving wife, Ruth (nee Farrales) Lindberg; his cherished children, Madeline (16) and James (13); his loving father, Jim Lindberg and stepmother Barb; and his sisters Katie (Lind) and Kirsten. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law Abby (Farrales) Distor and Rachel (Farrales) van Heerden; brothers-in-law Ray Distor and Jason Lind; nephews and nieces, Kaleb (Riley), Micah, Brandon, Linnea and Zander; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends who adored him.

He was preceded in death by his mother Linda; uncles Raymond Carlson and Bruce Elmer; grandparents Harry and Jeanette Lindberg, Stan and Donna Carlson, and Harry and Ruth Cutting; in-laws Efren and Nenita Farrales; and his brother-in-law Wynand van Heerden.

After graduating from Stevenson High School (Lincolnshire, IL), Bethel College (St. Paul, MN), and Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine (Maywood, IL), Doug committed his medical career to sharing both physical healing and the hope of the Gospel to the underserved people in Nepal. Together with Ruth, he served in Dadeldhura, Nepal, where he worked as medical director of a 55-bed hospital - the sole care provider for hundreds of thousands across a vast mountainous region.

Upon returning to the U.S., Doug served as an Urgent Care Physician with ProHealth in Waukesha County, WI, while also caring faithfully for his family during Ruth's illness. Later, he became the Director of the Center for Advancing Healthcare Missions (CAHM) for the Christian Medical and Dental Associations (CMDA), mentoring and equipping healthcare professionals to serve in medical missions worldwide.

Doug also gave generously of his time in his community. He served on the Elmbrook Church Elder Board, volunteered as a little league coach, and found countless ways to serve those God placed in his path.

Beyond his ministry and medical calling, Doug was a man of many joys. He created cherished memories with family and friends at Stormy Lake, on fishing trips, during vacations across the country and through spontaneous adventures. He was an avid sports fan - especially of the Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Bulls - and loved any chance to join in competition, from backyard games to organized sports.

Doug will be remembered most for his bold humor, his steadfast faith and his passionate commitment to serving others with love and joy.

I´ve enjoyed a warm and loving relationship with Barb and Jim over the years, as Barbs sister Nancy is my dear friend. I´ve shared a friendship with Kirsten as well and learned many stories of Lindberg fame. Please know that you are loved and held close as you all journey forward.

I was fortunate to be a colleague and friend of Doug during his time at ETSU Family Medicine -Kingsport, Tennessee. He role modeled his faith and as a caring, compassionate physician. May God grant you peace during this difficult time and rest in knowing this faithful servant is standing at the right hand of God.
