Douglas Mellen

Douglas Dean Mellen, 65, passed away peacefully on September 12th, 2024. Doug was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on August 24th, 1959. He was the son of Doyle Dean and Judith Jensen Mellen. Doug graduated from Box Elder High School in 1977. He married his high school sweetheart, Jeanine Cazier, in 1979. They shared the final moments of their 44 years of marriage together doing the things they loved; going for a side by side ride, picking elderberries, and talking about how blessed they have been in life. Doug dedicated 20 years to serving as a member of the Box Elder County Volunteer Search & Rescue, holding various positions including Commander. He was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, currently in his fifth year serving as a Trustee. Recently, he was honored with an induction into the Utah State Eagles Hall of Fame. You could frequently find him "ka-kaw-ing" to meet up for a cold drink. From an early age, Doug began working alongside his father in the glass business, where he acquired the skills that prepared him to become a successful second-generation owner of Mellen Glass. During his time as an owner, he generously contributed in supporting the community. Doug loved spending his free time at the family cabin in Blacksmith, going on motorcycle and side-by-side rides, and enjoying time with his family and friends. He loved everyone he knew in life. Doug is survived by the love of his life, Jeanine Mellen, Mother Judi Mellen, his siblings, Shari VanDyke, Pam (Dennis) Gailey, Julie (Chuck) Gailey, his 3 beautiful daughters Korina (Jed) Christensen, Kendra Mellen (Casey Archibald), Kassie Mellen (Jake Allsop), and bonus daughter Tyann (Justin) Fowkes, and 14 grandchildren; as well as countless framily and friends. Doug is preceded in death by his father Doyle Dean Mellen and his brother-in-law Richard VanDyke, and many other loved ones. The viewing will be held on Thursday, September 19 from 6-8 pm at Gillies Funeral Chapel. Graveside service will be held at the Cemetery in Brigham City, Utah on Friday, September 20 at 11:00am. There will be a procession of motorcycles and side-by-sides that will ride from Gillies Funeral Chapel to the cemetery. Please meet in the parking lot at 10:30am and be ready to ride at 10:45am.
