Philip Bradbury Obituary
Philip Charles Bradbury
Born in Chesterfield Idaho on October 4, 1930 - November 8, 2025
"The mountains are calling and I must go". Philip Charles Bradbury passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025, at the Beehive Home in Perry Utah.
Phil was born on October 4, 1930, to Charles Theo Bradbury and Nathalie Higginson Bradbury. His mother passed away while he was still a baby, and he was lovingly raised by his maternal grandparents, his aunt Bea, and his father. Though his early life was marked by loss, he learned resilience, gratitude, love and faith.
He lived in many places including Chesterfield Idaho, Lemhi Idaho, Salmon Idaho, Brigham City Utah, Corinne Utah, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City and Perry Utah where he resided for over 60 years.
Phil met his wife Vonetta Jacobson at a church dance in Salt Lake City. She was there to meet a blind date, and thought he was her date. He wasn't, but romance blossomed anyway. They were married for time and eternity in the Salt Lake City temple on April 22, 1955. They enjoyed 44 years together before she passed away in December of 1999. Phil married Garnet Stanger in November of 2000 in the Logan Temple for time, and they had many adventures together. They were married for 22 years.
Phil graduated from Box Elder High School, then he honorably served in the army, in the Korean War, as a lineman. He refined his knowledge and ability to fix just about anything with his training in the army. He repaired office & retail machinery (cash registers, copiers, typewriters) for the same company (which was bought out many times, but some of the names were: Friden, Singer and TRW). His repair territory ranged from Boise, Idaho to St. George. After retiring he began working with his eldest, son, Randy as a custom cabinet maker and installer for many years. Then he got a job at the "brand new" Perry Walmart in sporting goods. Phil was meticulous and thoughtful and always had some blank index cards and a pen in his pockets for notes and thoughts. He made many dear and lasting friendships there. He retired for the 3rd and final time in 2013. He was a very hard worker, who didn't take his shoes off until he went to bed!
Phil had many hobbies and interests. He loved to read, and always had a few books he was enjoying. He was also a skilled gardener, with remarkable vegetable and fruit gardens every year. Phil adored music and especially the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. You could always hear him singing along with his favorite songs. He loved animals, and had many horses, goats, dogs, cats, and some tortoises. Phil was an avid camper and hiker and founded both the West Perry Trail Riders and the Perry Jr. chapter of the NRA. He also loved a good prank and had the best smile and laugh. He was always up to something!
Phil spent his life in service, and was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he held many callings. Including a counselor in the bishopric, a home teacher, an ordinance worker in the Ogden temple, and as a scout master.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Arliss, Vilate, Donna and Wendell, his first wife, Vonetta; his second wife, Garnet; a granddaughter, Mataya Mackley; and great grandchildren Beau and Darla Bradbury.
He is survived by his brother Keith Bradbury, his children: Randy (Dawn) Bradbury, Kenneth (Kelli) Bradbury, Glenn (Eileen) Bradbury, Jana (Jay) Mackley, and Bonny Bradbury. As well as 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and his stepchildren; Marilyn (Randy) Everton, Cindy (Kenneth) Young, Joan (Mark) Jensen, Bert (Laura) Stanger, Chris (Heather) Stanger, and Randy (Shaunalee) Stanger.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to Susan Lyon, the Enhabit Hospice team, and the staff at Beehive Home of Perry for their compassionate care of Philip during his final years.
