MANSFIELD: Douglas Edward Ramsey, 78, of Mansfield passed away Friday, February 9, 2024 in Brethren Care of Ashland, following an extended illness.
The son of Chester and Dorothy (Mumaw) Ramsey, Doug was born February 26, 1945 in Mansfield, Ohio. He graduated from Mansfield Senior High in 1963. Doug continued his education at the Ohio State University and Ashland College where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Education in 1968. Doug later acquired his Master's degree in Administration from Akron University.
While a student at Ashland College, Doug met Donna Harris. The two were married August 16, 1969.
Doug's career in education began at Clear Fork Schools teaching math at the junior high and high school levels. Doug also served as student council advisor. He was instrumental in requesting and receiving a grant to purchase "The Ramsey House". A house located behind the Clear Fork Junior High used to teach living skills to special needs students. Doug had an eye and a passion for photography. While a student at Ashland College he was hired as the school photographer. He also worked as a photographer for Gerald's Studio in Ashland.
He loved to travel. Vacations included trips to Hawaii, traveling extensively out west and to Mexico with friends, cruises, and to Florida especially to Disney World. Doug appreciated nature and spent 6 weeks on an Alaskan family camping trip. His favorite destination was to Canada where he fished with his sons.
Doug never met a stranger and will be remembered for his outgoing personality.
