Douglas Zimmerman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes - Laingsburg Chapel on Jan. 20, 2024.
Douglas Case Zimmerman, 74, returned to his heavenly home on January 19, 2024 after a valiant battle with West Nile Virus. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
Doug was born to the late Clarence and Beatrice (Short) Zimmerman in Lansing, MI on January 24, 1949. He graduated from Lansing Eastern High School in 1967 and married his high school sweetheart, Judy Gleason on August 2, 1969. Doug enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1970 where he proudly served for four years. He then returned to the Lansing Board of Water and Light where he worked as an electrician for over 40 years, retiring in 2012.
Doug loved deer hunting and watching sports - and food. He was a very skilled builder and woodworker. He was very active in his church for many years serving in the Laingsburg Church of the Nazarene in many capacities and as a member of the security team at his current church, New Hope. He also loved attending his grandkids many activities as well as watching his nephew coach at DeWitt High School.
Doug will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Judy and his children, Michelle (Glenn) Nasrey, Melissa (Joe) Travis III and Jason (Erin) Zimmerman. Doug will also be fondly remembered by his seven grandchildren, Kaitie and Kylie Carlson; Gracie and Tyler Travis, Bethany, Zach and Andrew Zimmerman; by his brother, Bob (Liz) Zimmerman and nephew Rob (Christina) Zimmerman.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate Doug will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 11:30am at New Hope Church, 2170 E. Saginaw Hwy (M-78) East Lansing, Michigan. The Zimmerman family will receive friends at the church beginning at 9:30am.
